I don't want this to be a my gun is better than your gun thread. I own several different brands of guns but have been thinking a lot lately about a what if situation.
Just for the sake of arguement and another world war broke out, what would be the best pistol to have in battle. I know most guns today shoot well and are reliable but what about parts availability for repairs, what caliber, simplicity to maintain ect....

For me it would be a G17 or a G21. I have plenty of magazines. I have a full set of spare parts and spare barrels for both guns. I have plenty of spare parts for the AR's that I have bulit as well. But a battle. No thank you.

There is no pistol that is even good for combat, much less "best".

Get a rifle, preferably in .223 and a clone of the M16/M4.

If you must resort to a pistol only, get a Glock in 9mm or GI-spec 1911 (not a well-tuned custom or semi-custom).

Exactly! And make sure I have a lot of ammo for any of my guns.

I agree with you, I'm comfortable with my AR 15 but am curious about pistols. I have spare parts for my 1911 but just wondering about parts for sigs, glocks, hk, xds ect......

IMHO, a mil-spec 1911. The mil-spec 1911 is extremely reliable, uses a common and very effective cartridge, and is frankly just a good weapon. You may have to repair this or any gun in the field but, in a crunch, there is arguably very little you couldn't do to a 1911 in even a basic machine shop if you had to, an added benefit of being all steel.

That said, if you ever find yourself doing anything other than very basic maintenance you've failed IMO. If the proverbial crap ever hits the proverbial fan then do what snipers do and treat your piece exactly like what it is, the worlds best life insurance policy. Do whatever you need to in order to make sure nothing happens to your gun.

Glock or Sig in either a military or LE caliber

IMO a good revolver would be a great choice for the situation you described. You just have to decide on a caliber and stock up.

Anygun you have practiced with, know well how it works, and have the confidence that it will go bang when you pull the trigger. I trust any of my 1911s and that is what I carry.

Another choice for me would be a Glock 20 - 10mm with 15+1 rounds. I think that if I were on a combat situation I would like to have the G20 by my side.

I'd want my AR and G19. I know an AK would probably be a better choice but i have much more experience with an AR then AK

That's a good point and I have been looking at revolvers too

 That is a good idea. We should all just meet there. It would be amazing to see everyone on this board show up in one place. We would definitely be a force to recon with

Can't say what's "best." But for me, I like my 1911's, full size Glocks and Ruger revolvers. I like things that are durable and all of the ones I mentioned are very durable if nothing else.

Im gonna say a G21sf. Just because I like .45 and I like Glocks the best for this situation.

Glock 17 or 19. That being said, if that had to be my primary weapon in a real life combat situation, I would imagine my involvement would be pretty brief. Pistols are just about useless in most real world combat scenarios when everybody else is carrying rifles. Maybe I should just say my NP3+ Wilson Supergrade Professional Bobtail.....if I am going to die while bringing a pistol to a rifle fight, I might as well look good doing it.....:)

Just watched the history channel showing 10 ways to kill Osama Bin Laden and they talked about sending in the Elite Delta Force team and talked about their weapons of choice. They carried the M4 and they had their choice of some varient of the Glock or a varient in a 1911 in 45 caliber.
