View Full Version : Which 9mm 1911?

I am considering picking up a new 1911 in 9mm. The only two that I have found in my price range are the STI Spartan and RIA Tactical. I have seen the RIA for as low as $415 and the Spartan is going for $630. I would love to get the Trojan longslide in 9mm but that just isn't in the cards right now. Should I just save longer and get the Trojan? Are there others that I should look at under $650?

if MIM bother's you and you want adjustable sights, then get the Spartan.

I think the Spartan would be a good choice in your price range, but you might consider saving a little longer and getting the Trojan. My 9mm Trojan (I have the 5 inch model) is my favorite gun to shoot- accurate, soft recoil, reliable (I've only used Tripp Research magazines).

The adjustable sights would be nice but If I went with the RIA I would likely replace the stock sights with a set from 10-8.

I have the Spartan and personally like it a lot. I was super surprised about the quality of the gun. Slide to frame fit, fitting of controls, and trigger are all awesome. Only downfall is the park'd finish imo. But im going to let that wear off and get it refinished down the road. Here's mine. Few upgrades but still not complete....

I'm sorry, no diss intended, but I cannot believe a handgun is a 1911 unless it's a .45 ACP.

Any other caliber is just not what God and John Moses Browning intended.

You are definitely correct sir. Do you think the Infinity would look good on it or should i just stick with a wilson or 10-8?
I think I'm going to go with the 10-8 on my TRP as well because I was going to have my local smith go in and smooth and work with the trigger and ill just have him install the 10-8 while he's doing all that.

I doubt God cares, JMB is dead, and the other guy's opinion couldn't mean less to me. :wavey:

How about we offer constructive input rather than interjecting unsolicited opinions.

Its not even worth commenting on those kinds of peoples posts. I deal with it all the time with my car as well. I have a M3 with SMG transmission and people all the time are saying that its not a true sports car because it doesnt have a clutch. Well these people who are supposed to be so smart should know that the SMG has a clutch and with the same person driving the SMG is faster than a manual transmission

You're right, and maybe I went above my paygrade to say something to him, but I feel that the membership needs to police itself to keep this place informative and what I consider to be the best 1911 forum on the 'net. Sorry if I stepped out of line.

Well I guess it's a good thing I'm not spending your money.

I have a 1911 in .45 and will have many more I suspect. This is a gun I plan to enjoy for a few years before I hand down to my brother as a first handgun so 9mm is just more appropriate.

That comment wasnt directed towards you sir... I was speaking to the guy who "no diss intended" JMB IS GOD!!! guy. I feel that the Trojan is a much better pistol then the Spartan, you are correct. I just took a chance on the cheapy Spartan and i was super impressed about just about everything it features except the park'd finish

I'm mighty happy with my 9mm Les Baer Premier II with a 1.5 inch @ 50 yard guarantee. It's inherently accurate, low recoil and inexpensive to shoot.

Well, considering I can practice for 1/2 the price with my 9mm....that means I can shoot twice as much on the same platform. Now, if you want to send me a bunch of .45 ammo, I will PM you my address.

You're right. :)

It's my "white glove" 1911. It's always kept in a soft pistol case, and the butler gave me a pair of white shooter's gloves so that I don't get fingerprints on the polished slide slats and frame.

Seriously, it's never seen a holster... it's more of a collector's pistol than an everyday shooter. In retrospect I should have bought a Les Baer .38 Super. If I can sell this, I'll most likely get the Monolith (http://www.lesbaer.com/Monolith.html).
