When did you first shoot a first 1911? I shot the first time in 1999 I believe, my friend Frank brought his to the range and he handed me his SA loaded and a full mag, and said give this a try. That one mag is all it took and I was hopelessly in love with the 1911, and I knew it was the pistol for me:hearts:

The first time I shot a .45 auto was when I bought a Llama .45 in 1986.

First 1911 I shot was my first gun, a Kimber Team Match II. I picked it up from my FFL a couple days after getting my FOID, and took it to the range the next weekend (May 15th, 2010).

The first 1911 I shot was the first one I owned back somewhere around 1995 I believe. It was a Colt Govt. S80 Enhanced. This was the period when Colt first started making the more tricked out 1911's. I remember it being a tad unique because the top of the slide was flat and not rounded like most 1911's.

Was a good gun, wish I still had it. Stupidly traded it a very long time ago. Sad thing is after all these years I can still remember its serial number off the top of my head. Maybe I'll find her again one day at a gun show...lol!

Mine looked pretty much like the one in this pic except it had the black plastic trigger.

A buddy of mine had one pretty much like this. I probably shot it in '88 or '89. Another buddy of mine bought a Colt Glod Cup Delta Elite in stailess around that time and that when I fell in love with the 10mm. I bought a Norinco 1911 in late '89 or early '90 and that was my first .45 and first 1911.

Okie, I still haven't got to shoot the first 1911.:whistling: Is it still shooting nice and straight? That gun must be worth a ton now. Hope you had fun.

My first was in 1985 at Marine Corps bootcamp. We lined up and fired one mag into the berm. This was a "fam fire" (familiarization).

The first .45ACP shot I had was in October 1976...Navy Boot Camp. Think we got 3 rounds each to try out the pistol. Had never handled a semi-auto before, but had lots of time with my fathers .22 and .38 and .41 Mag revolvers (and had already had revolver predjudices ingrained in me by Dad). Then about a year later when qualifying for "top-side watch" on Subs. Again, wasn't impressed as I could always do better with a revolver.

Took me about 20 years, several variations of S&W revolvers, a few 'Wonder-Nine" autos,so popular in the late 80s and early 90s before I tried another 1911 again. Now I'm hooked.

First 1911 I shot was in the summer of 2007. Dad and I were headed to a race at Talladega and stopped off at a low-key outdoor range on the way to shoot my new Sig P220ST in .40. A retired LEO working the range walked up and we started talking Sigs. He eventually handed me his 1911 to shoot...of course I was hesitant - .45 was in my head as a recoil monster. Shot it 3 times and it was all over. No longer have that Sig-

My mentor asked me to clean this up for him. I didn't know what I was holding, so I searched for a schematic for it on the interweb. Eventually, he asked me to make it disappear. I asked to buy it from him. He then gave it to me. Shot it at the range and realized that it was the coolest gun ever.

Growing up shooting, we had several friends who were gun-nuts more than we were. I remember one of those friends showed up grinning ear to ear with what he told us was his brand new Colt Delta Elite. I didn't know much about 1911's and even less about 10mm at that time, but I knew it was probably the coolest gun I had ever fired up to that point. Ran a magazine through it. Heck, I don't know, I might have been 10 or 12. I remember at that time thinking that it "kicked a lot", but that I loved every minute of it.

Wiki says it was designed in '87, so that would have made me right in there around 10. I didn't fire another 1911 until college. But, that Delta always made an impression on me.

My first time was an old colt and i did not like it. I loved "tacticool" black guns and didnt want anything to do with a 1911. I grew to appreciate the history for what it was, and the appreciation grew into love. Now I dont really like plastic guns besides a few glocks i have left. Now its mostly Sigs, CZ's, P7 variants, and 1911's

I bought my first 1911 in 1993. A Norinco for $280 with 50 rounds of 45 ACP thrown in. As soon as I found a place to shoot it I ran all 50 rounds through it.

I bought my first Colt in 1974.
Been my weapon of choice until about two years ago when I discovered Glocks were not the plastic crap that everyone told me they were.
Still love the 1911's even though the Glock is my carry gun.

I don't remember exactly but I have a good idea.

When I was in second grade (1992ish) my family moved from Penn Hills (near Pittsburgh) to Ohio. I still remember a few trips to the Mckeesport gun club in PA with my dad and my first few shots with a 22 rifle. I know I wasn't that good but my dad kept a close eye on me and got me on the paper.

Since the 1911 is his favorite platform, I would imagine it did not take me long to start asking when I could shoot it. I think my first real taste of the .45 1911 came before I was out of grade school. It was a modified Colt US Property 1911.

My first was in 1982 when my buddy and I went to the range. He had a nickel plated Colt 1911 5" and I mean it was shiney. Polished nickel. All over. With ivory grips. It was a pimp gun but he loved it. I remember the day. I desired to own ever since. I have five now, which is about ten short of what I want.

I shot a few when I was a kid, but didn't really know/care what they were. I carried a Ruger Vaquero in 44mag as a BUG when hunting and a 14" crescent wrench for SD. (I was young)

The first one I spent any time with was a RIA Commander, this was around '04 or '05. It was lucky to make through a round or two without a malf. Swore off of those things for about a year then I got to shoot a guys CQB for a day. Loved it. Been hooked ever since.

My first was an old WW2-era Ithaca around 2002 that belonged to the father of the girl I was with at the time. We were visiting her family in Maine and I had mentioned how I liked to shoot. He took me back to his shooting berm and I unloaded a few mags into a homemade target. He was quite impressed with my shooting, and I was very impressed with the pistol. Ever since then, I knew I had to have one. I bought my very first one a few months ago, a Springfield Professional. I also have a Volkmann being built, due to be delivered around Christmas. I'm sure I will manage to pick up quite a few more, thanks to you sorry bastiges. :P

I bought a Springfield milspec as my first gun in 1989 (don't think it was actually called a milspec then). That was the first time shooting a 1911, though I've shot various other guns for many years prior. I caught the IPSC bug and had the local gunsmith do the usual beavertail, magwell, safety. Then I went to a comp, then a .38 super with comp, then a dot....

The irony is, I was going to go .38 super to begin with, but my grandfather had a big pile of war surplus .45 ammo. Penny wise, pound foolish.

I think it was either late 2005 or early 2006. And Quack loaded up his 9mm S.A. Loaded SS. I had to get use to the adjustable rear sight...couldn't stand the vertical wall with that notch. Still can't stand the Bo-Mar style sights.

It took me a while, but became a convert this year.

Had to think about that one for a minute, but I'm guessing 1985/1986. A friend of the family took me out shooting. Couldn't tell you what kind, but chances are it was a Colt.

I was about 7 years old and it was a Military 1911 my uncle had. Don't really recall the brand, but he was a Colt fan. This was before the 68 Gun Control Act. That would of made it 1959 or so. I remembered I almost let go of it.:embarassed:
