The new Wilson ammo I ordered arrived today from Midway USA. I have not shot any yet but it seems like nice stuff, just what you would expect from Wilson.

I can not see any reason this would not become my carry ammo in place of the Winchester STHP I currently use. Wilson in a Wilson seems to make a sense to me. Sorry for the pics, still trying to learn how to take them, clicking them will of course enlarge the pics some.

It will be awhile until I get to shoot any but so far I am happy with the purchase. The Wilson reputation for quality and consistency makes me more secured in my carry ammo than ammo from a "factory" does. Now I admit that might be just in my mind but I like the feeling of security the Wilson ammo gives me.

The numbers they put up for their 38 Super look good. 124 grain at over 1300 fps. I'm glad to see someone else is making 38 Super, not a lot of great stuff out there right now. Many say a lot of the commercial Super ammo out there isn't as hot as it should be, with the exception of Cor-Bon. The Wilson stuff looks really good, can't wait to try some.

Thanks for all the comments :)

I would think it would be pushing 1250 FPS or so out of the 4" barrel of the Wilson Compact pictured. That is enough velocity to perform well IMO. I am also glad to see someone putting out quality .38 Super ammo.

It seems like it is going to be some good stuff but I'd like to see some real world numbers and testing on it. All new ammo looks beautiful in the box. ;)

I agree but to me the Wilson name makes me comfy saying that it has been tested extensively before release and it works. As they shoots 1000s and 1000s of rounds thru 1911s yearly I would guess they know what does and does not work ammo wise in the 1911 platform. Again it might just be all in my mind but the Wilson name instills confidence in me.

and now they can say that their gun does x.xx" at XX yards.

Thats awesome. I wouldn't mind having a box or two just to have on hand.

Wow! I had no idea. I love everything Wilson produces or sells. If the ammo is as good as their pistols, it is bye-bye to Double Tap for me. And I really respect DT.

Dayum, they loaded those long.

XTP testing has been done ad nauseum. Expand a little, dig really deep. Only question is how fast they are driven.

A .38 Super carry gun..... I love it. Ammo looks cool but I'm afraid to ask what Wilson charges for it.

$24 per 20 rounds, in line with all other .38 Super JHP from Corbon, Double Tap and Winchester. The length issue must be a image issue with the picture, they are exactly the same length as the Winchester STHP. :)

Wilson is going to void your warranty if you don't shoot anything other than WC ammo!! lol

Id like to see them (Wilsons) come out with a 230gr FMJ practice/target load in .45ACP.

I'm just not used to seeing that much shoulder on an XTP... not really any big deal.

I just noticed they're using Starline brass too - make sure you pick it up and use it another 20 or 30 times! Good stuff.

I was really surprised that this isn't offered. :dunno:

+1 They have a 200gr SWC that'd be great for target, but I'd love for them to have some FMJ or TMJ options.

With the traditional .38 super, you want to be careful not to load too short or you risk getting rim lock (where the rim of a round gets behind the rim of the round below it).

As for the velocity, a modern .38 super could be pushed much hotter than their advertised velocity, though they are probably trying to stay within limits in case their ammo is used in an older gun. Consider that 1411 fps used to be what was needed to make IPSC major "back in the day".

I have not tried any of the Wilson ammo, mainly because I am more of a fan of Gold Dot bullets for carry. I have tried DoubleTap, Buffalo Bore, and Georgia Arms Gold Dot loads. I had all kinds of issues with the DT loads and will never buy them again. I really like the Buffalo Bore 124g loads and Georgia Arms. They are pretty much identical.....both at a true 1,350 fps out of a 5" barrel. I have also shot some Corbon stuff and had some pressure issues (primer flow) with their loads. My favorite load is my handloaded Gold Dot loads with 10.4g of VV N105....1,475-1,500 fps out of my 5" Colt and shoots very smooth.....

It's too bad the 9x23 really didn't take off. Imagine a factory 124 gold dot, HST, etc screaming along at 1490 fps.

For the Glockers, imagine a 17+1 G20 sized 9x23.
