Hello all,
I am looking for a 1911 strictly for the range, possibly in USPSA shoots. The Springer Trophy Match caught my eye and was wondering what information good or bad anyone could share with me. Also what would you consider a fair price for one new?

I already have a couple 1911's, so I really don't know why I am looking for another, but the bug has bitten.

The TM is an awesome gun. It is comparable to the TRP in many respects. I personally do not like the stainless, but that is just a personal preference. It would serve as a good gun for single stack. Ive also came to like the STI's as of late. I had no experience with them until last year, i bought the Trojan and most recently the Spartan and have been overly impressed. If you can get past the kind of LARGE STI rollmarks then there an amazing gun for the money, especially the Trojan for $999.
I have seen the TM's going for anywhere between $1150-1300.

It's a good gun. Along with the TRP, its Springfield's top production gun.

Checking out STI now, good call I forgot about them. I am with you on the stainless, but I kinda got the bug for a stainless one as well as I don't have one yet. I gotta admit I know very little about the competition other than my buddy is doing well with his G19, and I can't let that stand. I want to get something for production shoots that has a good bit of built in features, keeping it legal and all.

wouldn't a 1911 take you out of Production class?

:dunno:Like I said, I know very little, started looking into it about 6 hours ago.

Anyway, whatever class 1911's shoot, I want to get something that already has a good amount of features for it. Not trying to be a grandmaster this time next year, just trying to have some fun and hopefully whip my buddy and his glock.

Thanks for the help guys, like I said, I love my 1911's, but this USPSA thing is new territory.

I believe that 1911's can be used in everything except for Production class.

In IDPA, it's ESP, where 9mm's seem to be the choice.

i was told that all 1911s from milspec to full customs go into custom defensive pistol class for idpa. might be wrong.

the TM should be a great gun. i regret selling my SS TRP.

I have only seen 1911's used in Single Stack in IPSC. Limited division is dominated by Glocks and STI 2011's. Same with open

Ya I would check out the Trojan, Lawman, and Duty One. I really like the FDE Lawman they have pictured on their site. My next 1911 is probably going to be the Duty One, unless i can find a used wilson, baer, or brown in my price range.
I have no experience with the Duty One or Lawman, but the two i own are awesome. Super tight slide to frame fit and reliable

i should've been more clear.
ESP you can use 9mm 1911's, while CDP is where .45ACP 1911's usually are.

true, but you can use a 1911 in Open, Limited, but would be at a dis-advantage due to the limited capacity. could also use it in Lim-10

You can use ANY 1911 in ESP.

The problem is that you can't use 10rd mags in IDPA because they will not fit into the box while in the weapon. .45 ACP that is. You can run a 9mm, .38 Super, 10mm, or .45ACP

Esp 1911's are mostly 9mm's with an occasional .40
Lots of people run Glock 21's with downloaded ammo.

This. You will get smoked in ESP using a .45. Most will anyways.....
