I am cleaning up the reloading room and found some red media (polishing) from Thumlers Tumblers that a friend gave me. I ran some cases through it and it left red residue on all my cases. I cleaned them off, one by one with a rag and loaded some. I now have red dust in my gun, magazines and on the press. Is this what I always hear people talking about the dust and dryer sheet threads? I never had this trouble with the Lyman treated media. Should I just dump this stuff and go back?

I think what you have is jewelers rouge. The red stuff that most people talk about is dust from the walnut shells they use.
I tried the jewelers rouge about 30+ years ago. Did not like it. Like you said it goes everywhere. Itís not going too hurt anything. Me I quite using it. I think I still have one or two jars of the stuff that you mixed in with the media.

It's most likely jeweler's rouge... mildly abrasive unless you put it on a Dremel buffing wheel them you can make magic with feed ramps, sears, rebound slides, neat stuff like that.

A little bit of it on your cases won't really have any effect on your sizing die, especially if it's carbide. I wouldn't dump it, I'd mix a small percentage (maybe 25%) in with your regular media. It'll make your brass nice and shiny which as you know attracts women. Normally that would be of no use to you but you're going to be ignored for the next year or so. Get used to it.

Thanks guys. I think it is walnut treated with rouge. I just hate the red dust every where! I may split it up with some regular media and see if it cuts the mess down.

Like Jack said they are shinny cases and I will need it!
