How old is this Unique can. A friend gave it to me, and had no idea.
Think that I read somewhere that Hercules switched to pop up top cardboard cans in the 80'S sometime.
Can anyone verify its age?
Thanks for any help.

You could always contact Alliant & see when the lot was produced.
Even thou it was made by Hercules back then, for liability reasons I'll bet they can date it for you.

Or you could wait until Jack rolls along, I think his first Unique were packaged in clay vessels.

How old? I have no idea, I can tell you I bought some in 1979 in that same cardboard container, how long they were using it before then I donít know, how long they used them after that I could not tell you.

Wrong!!! They were still using those little metal tins that Jack now uses to carry his meds around in.

Wow, I have a container of that too. My Dad gave it to me when I told him I had started reloading. I haven't used any though....

I've been using unique from 1974 in that's in that same can. It still shoots great. I guess I've got about 8 to 10 lbs of that stuff.....

I had some in my loading supplies from the early-mid-1980's that was in that container.

I opened it way back then, used a bit of it, and deemed it dirtier than I wanted to clean up. It was horribly dirty in my .357 mags. I dumped it on an ant bed a few years back, much to my wife's dismay. It sent up a flame that was very tall, very bright, and very short lived.

The ants didn't like it, either.

Alliants version of Unique seems far better to me, and leaves my guns much easier to clean.
