I'm thinking of buying a new Charles Daly tactical 12 gauge shotgun for home defense. It's similar to the attached photo but without the pistol grip. What's your opinion of Charles Daly shotguns?

By the way, it's on sale for $267 at Big 5 Sports here in UT.

One other question, is a pistol grip important to have?

I am sure it goes bang well enough. The problem is, for how long will it keep going bang reliably?

With Mossberg & Remington at least you have proven military and police field experience and real world testing to back it up. Thats a part of what you are paying for. Peace of mind. What is battle field testing and reliability worth to a company?

Yeah its $100 less than the old faithfuls but is it really saving you $100 in the grand scheme of things? (if you have to send it off to the factory for repairs? ect ect.)

Philipine and Turkish guns are ok for bird hunting but when it comes to self defense... I try to stick to the tried and true classics. (I have owned both Mossbergs and Remingtons)

I believe Charles Daly went out of business so sending it back to the factory is not going to be an option. They may have paid someone to take over warranty work but not sure what they would gain by doing that.

From what I'm reading I think I'll stay away from Charles Daly. Real glad I asked. Besides I just bought a 870.

I replied to a similar thread over on SG forums - Charles Daly is a hot topic lately. As stated above, CD has gone out of business, so you have no warranty support. If the gun is a clone of something more common, parts availability is less of an issue.

I'd opt for the PG stock - just bought one from AI&P for my 870 and love it.

If you bought an Express there's a $30 rebate.
