View Full Version : anyone use Unique in Shotshells?
i am possibly going to be starting some shotshell reloading and would like to try to keep powders to a minimum. i currently use Unique in my pistol loads. i also have TiteGroup and may try to switch to a ball powder like 231, WST or WSF.
anyone have any input? these will be used for skeet and trap mostly but may also load up some 00Buck to have on hand as well.
Unique is one of the finest shotshell powders ever made. I used it along with Reddot for years and years for skeet and trap. You'll have no problems with your target loads... I never loaded any hunting loads with it however but I don't see why it wouldn't be just as good in that application.
I agree with Jack - used it for many years in 28 gauge when shooting skeet.
For pheasant, I used Unique along with 1.5 oz of slow moving 4 shot (about 1050 fps) in a 12 gauge and didn't need a dog - they went down and stayed down. Use it allot for handgun too, I have about 8lbs on hand.
Works great in 12 ga. 2 3/4" 1 1/8 oz loads and also very well in 20 ga 7/8 oz. loads. Takes from 15-18 grains in 7/8 oz 20 gauge and around 21-22 grains in 1 1/8 oz 12 gauge loads. Follow loads in published manuals EXACTLY and do not substitute components. Not the best powder for 1 1/4oz 12 ga. loads but can be used.
I use Unique in my 20ga and Red dot in my 12ga.
Getting ready to load up 250 28 gauge hulls for dove using Unique. I've got a batch of it so figure it will be a good fit. this year.
Not the most economical in 12 gauge for target use but it shines for hunting reloads.
thanks guys. this helps me justify buying it a keg at a time.
