My Sister was told by a recruiter that my Grandson could get out of boot camp if he didn't like it. Said they would council him and if he didn't want to be there he could just up and go home. Is this correct for USMC boot camp now days ?????

When I went to boot camp in 97 if you couldnt hang in boot camp they would send you off the one of the ppc platoons or something and there you would wait till you got admin seperated but you had to really suck to get thrown in there.

I wouldn't exactly call it a get out of jail free card. You can opt out so to speak but it will not be pleasant at all. The DI's and support personnel won't tell you that you can quit, and most Recruiters as well as Recruiting Substation NCOIC's will not tell you that you can quit. They all try to instill in a young man or woman that it's NOT EASY to become a Marine or everyone could do it, and that MARINES don't quit. We attack! We attack all obstacles in life no matter how large or small. Your sister's child made a free and voluntary commitment, all Marines would love for him to honor it yet not everyone has got what it takes to make it. OP, PM me if you have questions or concerns. I am a retired Marine, spent time at MCRD Parris Island, SC, as well as a successful tour on Recruiting Duty as both a canvassing Recruiter and a Substation NCOIC. Simply put, Man up, put your all into it and you'll leave Boot Camp a much stronger, more confident Marine. Remember, the title Marine is earned, not given freely.

I went to Parris Island, SC when I was 18 and did NOT graduate due to a leg injury. I assure you that graduating is absolutely the easiest way off that Island. Swimming through couple of miles of bull shark and snake infested swamps might be a close second.
