New Project: .22LR Rimfire Rifle

The last couple of weeks of August, Taurus would send me text messages that would go this way...

taurus: "bro, pumunta ka na sa pb?"

the following day...
taurus: "bro, pumunta ka na pb?"
ec: " di pa, mamaya after clinic"

the following day...

taurus: "bro, pumunta ka na pb?"
ec: "di pa, mamaya punta ako"
ec: "saan ka? samahan mo ko punta tayo pb"
after a few hours...
taurus: "bro hindi ako pwede, may meeting ako"
ec: "ok, tom na lang"

the next week...
taurus: "bro, pumunta ka na pb?"
ec: "di pa"

the following day...
taurus: "bro, pumunta ka na pb?"
ec: "di pa, san ka? punta tayo mamaya"
taurus: "ok"

that was Tuesday, August 17.

so off we went to PBD along Roces... there were only 2 remaining CZ 452 units left, both dislay items. A CZ 452 American with walnut stocks and a CZ 452 Style with black synthetic stocks and satin finish barrel... the Style was perfect! Taurus picked it up and inspected it. No blemishes whatsoever. I asked the salesman if I can get the Style. He checked and said it has not been reserved yet. I ask him if Mr. Dionisio was in... hoping to get some more discount! Mr. Lui Dionisio said he had to clear it first if they can sell me their display unit... my heart sank! Taurus' was giggling all the way to the bathroom! (but that is a different story altogether!)

3 days later, I get a text message from sir Lui saying i can get the last CZ Style! Woohoo! Gastos na naman! So off we went to PB to inspect the unit again and make a deposit! The PBD staff said it will take around 10 working days to process the license once I submit all the requirements...

So encouraged by Taurus, Gundog, WP.22 and Mark da Spark, I found myself embarking on a new project for 2010... setting up my own rimfire rifle.

Congrats - beautiful gun - well worth the price - someone told me you only need
to buy 45 firing pin springs cut down to the lbs you want and use them on the CZ trigger - poor man's way of tuning the poundage of the trigger...:supergrin:

last saturday we were scouting around for scopes and other accessories for the rimfire. was able to get a bipod from an airsoft shop...

i went there today to submit the necessary papers for the license and paid it in full...

saw a couple of items from brownell's, an adjustable sear, light springs and a custom trigger kit...

or your can go to your friendly airsoft shop and tell them u want scope rings for airguns, same din yun, but they only have one size TALL! :)

Try mo sa Strong Hand if they still have B-Square or Millet scope rings for 3/8in grooves. That's where I buy them for my air rifles and rimfires.

It's a good idea to invest in quality scope mounts because cheap mounts can move when you pack your rifle in a case, and that throws off your zero.

Btw, ano pala yung minimum distance that you can focus the scope to?

finally! my project .22LR rifle's finished! Got rings and flip up covers from PB. was able to zero the CZ at armscor this afternoon with taurus and boss mike. need to break it in some more... the trigger's around 7++ lbs and the bolt sticks a bit.

Sept. 10, 2010

Today was declared a holiday, E'id el Ftir whatever... but it gave us another day for shooting the CZ 452 triplets! Arrived at armscor 11am, all the bays were taken with lots of pistol shooters practicing for the clubshoot this weekend. It started to rain hard around 1pm so the pistol shooters, grampa pogi, shihan, shihan's brother and charlie, joined us sighting in the rifles. after 4 1/2 hours at the range we were able to finish 250-300 rds of armscor .22lr among the 7 of us. at P154 per box of 50 rounds, that is just P924. pretty inexpensive compared to 300 rds of 9mm or .40 s&w rounds! hahaha!

doc ec, check out my el cheapo rings on sunday pinabutasan to thru and thru to accomodate bigger screws sa tingin ko pwede na siya pang centerfire hehehe. Low mount na ngayon yung sa akin kaya back to zeroing ulit. Pinukpok ko lang ng hammer to remove the stock screw.

it was a heavy one shot breech loading rifle that i can put 3 shots inside one hole at 50 meters prone or at rest using eley club or tenex. using peep sights.

when i put a 20 power scope wala na challlenge. it was point and press and bullet will go into the same hole.

i sold it and i regretted it to this date.

hindi na nut with washer na lang on the other side. Pag nag lagay pa ako ng thread baka pag hinigpitan ko kainin lang ng thread ng turnilyo hindi rin masisikipan properly. kailangan ko lang putulin yung excess lenght ng turnilyo para malinis tignan.

After lunch, Carlo and I arrive at armscor. We notice joji can't zero his rifle. upon inspection, we say, "'jie, tabingi yung cross hair ng scope mo!" hahaha! so tinanggal na naman ni gundog scope and we align the cross hair. Zero ulet! hahaha!

Albert arrives with his CZ 452 and his Anschutz. We go on plinking heaven! Albert zeroes his CZ then starts hitting the sillhouttes at 75meters!

Carlo, mike and I join albert plinking at the sillhoutte targets out to 75meters with impunity. Practicing offhand shooting the 4 inch round plates!

Bang! Crack! Ping! The feeling of able to hit a barely seen piece of metal at 75meters and being rewarded an audible ping form the hits! woohoo! sarap!

all this time, joji was still trying to zero his rifle! Inspect ulet! We see the scope rings still moving!

We give up, we go home, si joji ewan ko ano nangyari...

...later that evening, I recieve a text message..."doc, bili mo ako turnilyo!" hahaha!

the quest for the perfect zero continues! Abangan!

Gundog, give me your screws ill get you from my suking tindahan near my house. If the screws are still moving despite tightening they may already ate the aluminum thread of the scope ring. ikaw pa naman ang nag zero nung akin rifle. Check also the take down screws minsan maluwag just like what happen to mine.

You can either oversize the hole and re-Tap it or buy a new scope ring.

I remember i have a staff that knows a little bit of cutting and welding i gave him a sketch and told him that after doing their deliveries he could start working with the targets.

I would be skeptical to apply grinding compound on the bolt. The bolt will gradually smoothen out with use. One bad thing that could happen is when even minute amounts of grinding compound get introduced on the rifling of the barrel.

Marstar's website lists availability of this rifle by December 2010. That means that Norinco is once again manufacturing these rifles.

You probably bought the JW14 which resembles an M1 Carbine. The JW15A is the bolt action CZ clone. If you don't mind me asking, did you use high velocity or standard velocity ammo on the rifle?
