I have that shotgun and..I'm not sure if the finish is parkerized or just matte black. Anyways, BRAND NEW IN BOX haven't even fired it yet and I wiped the entire thing down with a little REM OIL and noticed on my white rag that a brownish color was on the rag. Is the brand new gun RUSTED? The gun itself looks normal. Did I just wipe off my finish?? Or is everything OK????

I would suggest buying some Breakfree CLP & liberally coat.
Leave on for a few, them wipe dry. Lose the RemOil

It looks like Remingtons bead blast blue finish. They take a little more care than others. Make sure you don't leave it in a padded case. I found Shooters Choice Rust Prevent which is a aerosol works really well especially since it leaves the gun dry.

That is the matte finish not parkerized. They come with some protectant coating on them and that is what you are seeing. These weapons can be stored in warehouses at the distributors for months so this coating it on them to keep them rust free. Give it a good wipe down and coating of oil.

The only 870 that comes parkerized from the factory is the 870 Police. the matte finish is a rust issue in humid conditions and after you wipe it down with oil be sure not to touch metal parts when putting it up for storage as the salts on your hands can cause it to rust. Keeping the surface clean and with any kind of good gun oil will keep the rust issue at bay. I purchase hundreds of this same model a year as that is the base weapon for my tactical builds and they all come like yours did.

What is the difference between this gun and the 25077/ Express HD?

I ask because there are two here locally for $375 and I want to go pick one up tomorrow. One's at Dicks the other's at an independent shop, and is $375 to much to pay?

That's about what I paid at Pro Bass for mine earlier this year.

That is the 870 Express HD. Is that what you were asking gonepig ? Same Weapon weapons. Remington model 25077 and the retail sellers just adds the number 9 for their item number.

New guns and all refinished guns need oil on them. If you leave finger prints on the gun the oil from your skin has acids that will damage any finish over time. Even if just sits in a safe you should clean then every year or so. Do you use any moisture control in its storage area?
