I posted this in the General Firearms Form yesterday and was directed to this Form.

I have a Glock 30 and am considering a G36 or another M1911. I have a Remington 1942 M1911 that Clarks, some years ago, replaced the sights with high profile ones, opened up the barrel, polished the feed ramp and lowered the ejection port. I love it, for its accuracy, ability to feed empty cartridge cases, SWCs and any thing lead. But, Its a range gun not too suitable for conceal carry.

I am torn between the M1911 and G36. The G36 holds 6+1 and the 1911 7+1, minor I admit. The Glock as stock is regulated to jacketed or plated bullets. Those are cons to me.

I love the three Glocks I own, I love my M1911.

For a M1911 I would be in the market for a stainless with features similar to my Remmy and open to a $1200 purchase.

Help Yall I am 100% open to suggestions, pro and con.

I realize I am talking to a Glock form That's why I'm here. I just need some input so I can sleep the next two nights.

I may seem negative towards the G36, but Im really not convince me please.

are you looking for an enhanced 1911 (beavertail, Novak/BoMar sights, etc.) or a GI style?

what size are you looking for Gov't, Commander, Officer, CCO?

are you going to carry it?

Frizzen

Looking for Commander style 4 to 4.5 inch barrel or similar in stainless with low profile sights.

I will be carring on an irregular basis.

Dan Wesson Commander-Bobtail.

the replacement is the Valor-Bobtail, which is a few hundred more.

The DW CBOB looks good. Going price?

for the criteria of a Stainless Commander sized 1911 under $1200 look at the Springfield Champion, Kimber Pro Carry, S&W (don't know the name) and if you can find one, the Dan Wesson C-Bob.

the CBob was discontinued for 2010 (except for california), but i've found a few around for $1049, but have seen them going for ~$1200
the V-Bob (which has a forged frame as opposed to the cast CBob) is ~$1500. they pretty much look the same.

For carry the G36 is really tough to beat. I just bought a 4.25" 1911 to use for occasional carry, i ran 50 rounds of gold dots through it yesterday and i had multiple FTF issues. Im going to try some powrball and critical defense and see if that functions better.

This is very interesting to me. Lots of options. More please.

you bought a Champion Operator, right? It's a 4" gun and has a ramped barrel. the ramp might have some machining marks that may be the cause or the extractor tension is too tight.

Unless you go with an officers model, there are reliable carry worthy 8 round magazines, so it would be 8+1.

I wouldn't get stuck on stainless. There are some good finishes available today that are pretty corrosion resistant. Besides, the G36 isn't stainless.

Smith & Wesson 1911PD or Colt Commander XSE would be my choices. I have recently shot the S&W 1911PD in a 4.25 version....both the plain PD & the Gunsite version. Lightweight frame. Not bad guns at all and under $1000 I've never shot a G36, but would like to. If Glock would come out with a pistol the size of a G17, in a single stack .45 variant.......I think I would have to have one.

There's usually a few CBOBs on gunbroker for the $1,200ish range. I'd also look at the Kimber Stainless Pro TLE2, and Pro CDP. Both really nice guns < $1,200. Or the SuperCarry Pro for $1,300.

Any interest in a Kimber SIS Pro (http://glocktalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1257966)?

I hesitated posting that. What is the etiquette on that anyway? Seemed to fit the bill, aside from the "Stainless" part.

I can't say anything about the Colt Commander XSE or any other 1911 or even the G36 for that matter. However I have the standard stainless SW1911 and it's been 100% rock solid. My wife and I have fired 1300 to 1500 rounds through it and we haven't had a single problem with it at all.

All the horror stories I've heard about 1911's not being reliable until they're broke in after 500 plus rounds hasn't been the case with ours at all. Maybe we've been lucky I don't know. We've shot WWB, UMC, American Eagle FMJ practice/plinking ammo as well as Remington's 230 gr. Golden Saber and Federal's 230 gr. HST ammo through it. I carry the HST's in it.

For carry the G36 would get my vote, but seeing that you already have a G30, the benifit of the G36 is lessened. Also it seems more like you want a fairly nice 1911 more than an additional Glock.

Yep, I'm leaning towards the M1911. Beginning to see I have too many Glocks and not enough 1911's.

I just got a Kimber Compact CDP II, which is Commander length, with an officer frame. You may want to take a look at one, it is a bit more concealable than a commander sized 1911, but you get the 4" barrel.

yep

And it's tempting to get out of that category.

Nothing shoots like a 1911. I have a G36 and have shot several 1911s. Guess what, my next gun is going to be a 1911. The G36 will stay my CCW, but the 1911 will be my favorite range gun.
Sell the G30 and get the G36 and the 1911 of your choice.

I won''t be able to get to the range for a coupla weeks as far as a range report goes.

I hand cycled a full magazine load of each of MagTech Ball, Winchester Ranger 230 gr. SXT (STD) and Federal 230 gr. HST (+P). Ill be carrying the SXT load.

Havent completely read the manual yet to find out about +P.
