I happened to be in Harbor Freight today, and they're having a big sale. 6" digital calipers are $9.99. I was tempted to buy several to resell...but decided it wasn't worth the hassle. I think the sale ends this weekend.

AFAICT, these are the same digital calipers other places sell for anywhere from $20 to $40.

I swore off dig calipers after my FA purchase (probably the same ones). The dial calipers are easy to read & bullet proof, they always work, no battery needed, nothing to burn out or break.

The battery dependency does suck.

The Harbor Freight 6" caliper has served me well in the last two years. The digital readout makes for fast, easy reading with aging eyes. I've only replaced the battery once, last month or June, can't recall which. It's a very common button battery.

I still have my plastic RCBS dial caliper that I bought when I first entered into reloading back in '82. It will measure in .01" increments, close enough for most work, and it served me all those other years before I found out how convenient the digital ones are. That plastic dial unit is my backup in the event the battery fails.

I like the 4" Harbor Freight digital calipers, but not the 6" ones. The 6" calipers seem to be more loose and more crude. You don't need anything bigger than 4" for reloading anyway, unless you reload .50BMG.

Yep. Like I said, I was really tempted to buy half a dozen or more of them and resell them for $15-$20 a piece.

Well maybe for pistol ammo, but there are quite a few larger magnum rounds that will stretch your 4" calipers, especially in single shots. I shoot a 338x74K, OAL right at 4.00" in a Ruger #1. Why buy a tool that limits you, get the 6" calipers, just buy something a bit better than $10 ones.
