I lnow, I know another 40/powder question, sorry.

I've been shootin/loading 165gr Rainer plated RN-FP with 6.4gr Unique at 1.125in. Load data is kinda all over the place on this one, Lyman 48-6.0gr Max, Sierra #5-7.0gr Max and Speer #13-7.2gr Max.

Thought my load was just fine until yesterday, guy at the range said I was over Max. I know I am over according to Lyman, but well under according to Sierra and Speer.

What say you? How much Unique in the 40 with 165gr are you guys using?

Thanks
Steve

i've gone with 7gr unique and 165gr rainier it chronoed at 1107 fps out of my g22 with a SD of 7fps this load showed no signs of over pressure and it also shot well.

load data found in books for the .40 is almost always for jackted bullets the plated stuff should be treaeted like lead. with that said i have loaded many rainiers up to almost max load for jacketed stuff with good results but use a chrono and work up slow as i have reached the same velocity of the jacketed bullets using half a grain less powder with plated/lead.

Unique will work- I'd just go with whatever Alliant publishes since they're the manufacturer. I load 5.7-5.9 gr. of Hodgdon Universal. Great load, very consistent figures on the chronograph, similar burning rate to Unique, much cleaner.

This is true. Your load should be fine. I have run the same Berry's 165gr o/ 6.3gr of Unqiue for right @ 1000fps. It's also very accurate, one of the best loads I have come up w/ in the 40. My SD handload, if I were going to use a handload, is 6.5gr under a 165grRGS for 1065fps. All of these are form a 4006/4" bbl.

Thanks everyone, I ran it through the Chrony today, running right around 1080fps avg.

Sorry I forgot, it's a 3.9 inch barrel, CZ P06

Yep, sounds about right. Very good shooting load in my finicky 4006, right @ 1 1/2" for 5 @ 15yds. That gun never shoots factory ammo that well.

FWIW, all the rounds of Ranger 165 I've clocked out of my G27 are right about at that number. So, you could possibly up things, but you are right at the "standard" velocity for factory ammo and I would keep it right there personally.
