I am considering purchasing a Dillon 550B press. Should I use my Lee 45 GAP dies or is it worth an extra $60.00 for a set of Dillon 45 GAP/ACP dies? Thanks, OD
Your Lee dies will work fine. Some people prefer Dillon because they have a slightly larger mouth and the cases slide in easier. Plus Dillon dies come apart easier for cleaning. That's not a big deal, but still worth a little more.
In my experience, Dillon always costs a little more, but is worth it.
If you allready own the dies I would give them a try. The Dillons are a little nicer but a lot of guys run Lee on a 550. The base of the dillons are a little wider and make the case enter easier, but most people have no problem with the Lee dies in a 550.
If you don't like them or have trouble crushing cases you can allways order them then. If you had no dies I would recomend the Dillons.

My prefered setup for jacketed bullets
Lee Sizer
Lee Seating die/Redding COMP PRO if you have $$$$$
Dillon or Lee crimp. It just doesn't matter.
My preferred setup for lead.
Lee Sizer
Dillon everything else.
Even though I shot mostly lead now I still have only Lee seating dies and one Dillon Crimp die. It doesn't really matter that much.
Simple answer: use your Lee dies.
