It's about $30 for one of these. Worth it? Go on easy? Thanks.

Easy installation. I've had a couple of them and like them. I prefer the Mesa Tactical side saddle, but that is more expensive.

Not used Tac Star but I have used Mesa Tactical and I like them a lot.

I had a tacstar side saddle on my Winchester. It was on there when I bought it. Decided it was a little poseresque for me to start tacticooling up a cool old shotgun like that, so I got rid of it.

The construction was good, though. I can't speak to the Mossberg version, but I didn't really care for the fact that there was only the one contact point with the receiver frame (through the trigger group pin).

Will the Mesa Tactical attachment allow me to put shells in face up and face down?

Get the Mesa.

The Tacstar will work (had one) but quality just isn't there.

Also, remember to blue loctite the screws, otherwise one day it'll fall off.

Yes. Occasionally take them out just to let the rubber gasket recover. The shells are held in via the gasket not pressure from the frame of the shell holder.

...But it will work and Scattergun used them for years. I have had one for my backup for 3 years and never unloaded it and never had a lack of retention or failure. My Mesa Tactical doesn't hold the shells as tight as the Tacstar. BUT, the Mesa looks BADASS and the Tactstar looks sufficient.

My $0.02.

Be sure to write down the serial number of the shotgun BEFORE loctiting the side saddle on. Don't ask me how I know that...

They used them for years because nobody made anything better. They do work. But by preference, i'd buy "better" if it's going to be a one time purchase.
