I bought a .45 acp Para Ord GI Expert yesterday 9-4-10 and,I have heard that it had magazine problems. I havent had a chance to go to a range yet to check it out but plan on it soon. Can someone tell me the truth that has a GI Expert and tell me what other mags will work if the factory ones will not. I have been looking at Chip McCormick and Colt mags. Thanks. Glock26z

I wouldn't worry about it until you shoot it and either have a problem or not have a problem.
I have some old Chip McCormicks that have been reliable for twenty plus years.
I'm just getting to changing the springs on em now.
They are ok mags and reasonably priced.

There is no magic magazine for all 1911's, so you will need to find the one's that will function in your gun. It's not like Glock, Sig, XD/XDM, M&P's, HK's where the gun is only made by them, so naturally the best mags are made by them.

Very true. I just picked up a GI 1911 mag from the 1980's still in the foil and plastic last week. I found out it was made by Checkmate, and was really hoping it would work in my 1911's since it was only $7 and then I would go back and buy more of them.

I tried it in a GI Expert, A Colt 1918 repro, and my Dad's Para pxt. Un fortunately it only worked in Dad's Para and in the other two guns it wouldn't even chamber a round from it, like the mag itself was in the way of the round chambering. I also tried it in a Kimber Compact Stainless and it wouldn't work, but so far no mags are working 100% in that gun but thats another story altogether.

Congratulations on the new gun.

Try out your factory mags first. If there are feeding issues, consider trying Chip McCormick or Wilson Combat Mags. Also switch the recoil spring by checking with Wolff Springs.

Let us know how it shoots. You are one of the rare Proud Para Owners....I had a Para P14 but traded it for another gun listed below for concealment purposes. Kimber Ultra Raptor II. It shoots Different brands of HPs and it's so light an easy to conceal.

I like the Tripp Cobra mags the best.
