I plead ignorance when it comes to current ammo prices/conditions of late. Can someone pls confirm if this (https://floridaguntrader.com/index.php?a=2&b=53148) is a fair deal. I'm willing to pick up the whole lot.

I'm in Orlando and the seller is in Tampa. It's about 120 miles one way (approx. 1-1/2 hrs. drive). My truck gets 20mpg. At $2.80 per gallon I figure it's going to cost about $35 round trip in gas to do a ftf transaction.

So I'm just wondering if it's worth it.:dunno:

Thanks.

Are you going to save $35 on the ammo?

Can you get the seller to meet you half way?

The price of the JHP isn't bad, but the price for the FMJ is plenty high. There are lots of online vendors selling FMJ .38 for less than that - even when you factor in shipping costs.

Sorry. What I meant to say was it's going to cost me 35 bucks to travel there and back. So on top of what the sellers asking for the ammo, which is $250, I'd have to tack on another 35 for travel expenses. That would bring the total to $285, plus three hours in travel/personal time which I really can't quantify in dollars and sense.

Nope, seller can't meet half way.

What do you think - worth it?

Thanks Kalmah. Factoring in $35 in travel expenses and 3hrs. travel time, if you were in my shoes what would your counter offer be to really make it worth your while?

I would do exactly that. Make the seller an honest counter offer and ask him to meet you 1/2 way. Just explain what you said here. You will have all of the additional travel expenses and drive time to factor in as well. If he is not willing to do that, he obviously does not want to sell anything too badly. I reload most of my practice ammo now, but I buy all of my HP stuff for defensive purposes online. That is where the best deals are, IMHO.

I just read that you said it would be a 3 hour round trip??? If that is the case, there is no way I would personally go for this deal, esp. if the seller was not willing to meet me. I can order stuff on a number of different websites right now for less money and have it delivered right to my door.

I personally would pass on this deal.

Like I mentioned, the FMJ is overpriced and there are plenty of places to get it cheaper elsewhere. So I wouldn't even be interested in that.

That leaves the JHP. While it's a good price, it's not good enough for me to drive 3 hrs for only 350 rounds of ammo. Even though I may pay a little more, I'd rather just order online and have it delivered to my door. On top of that, the Winchester wouldn't be my first choice for defensive ammo.

But that's just me.

FMJ's 300 rounds for $125 is $20.83 per box of 50

JHP's 350 for $140 is $20 per box of 50.

Aim Surplus has FMJ .38's for $16 per box. You'd have to pay shipping, but my recent order of 1,000 rounds of 7.62x39 shipping was about $25.

Only 125 gr JHP's I could find were at Natchez for $25 per box. I haven't checked Walmart for their prices.

So like others have said the FMJ is over priced the JHP is a pretty good price. But I would choose a different JHP for self defense.

Not worth it for me to drive that far. I'd order the FMJ from AIM for practice and get some other ammo for self defense.

Palmetto has FMJ .38 for $14.95 per box, and $12 shipping for 1000 rounds.
