I'm getting ready to order an M4 and have a question concerning why there are 2 different locations for the battery. What are the pros and cons of having the battery on top of the unit? What are the pros and cons of having the battery on the bottom of the unit?

Is anybody knowledgeable on why there are 2 different positions for the battery?

Are you talking about physically positioning the optic on the rifle?

No, I'm wondering why you can have the battery compartment on top with the M4

or you can have the battery on the bottom with the M4s.

What's the advantage or disadvantage of either position?

I own the M4s (lower battery compartment). Reason I went with the M4s is the battery compartment is lower so it stays out of your fov(field of view). Also, if you drop your rifle with with the other model, the first point of contact will be the battery compartment. While that battery compartment is strong, the 30mm housing of the optic is much stronger, which is where it will land first with the M4s. Protecting your battery compartment. The US Army uses M4s due to the fov issue. Also, the brightness switch is lower, which I prefer. And the M4s has a more streamlined look.

Wider field of view and better battery protection with the M4s. Thank you sir!

Just out of curiosity why does Aimpoint offer the M4 if the M4s is seemlingly better?

Dunno. I suppose if a company can make a buck on it and it sells, make 'em. Plus people like options I guess. No good answer for ya.:rofl:I'm only guessing at this point, but the m4 probably came first and then through normal product evolution, the m4s came along. To perhaps improve on the original design?

Makes sense. I was thinking it had something to do with interfering with a piece of equipment like a magnifier.
