Compact Frame, Long Slide

I saw in a previous post that you could put a G34 slide on a G19 frame, that Lone Wolf Distributors does it all the time. I've got a couple questions regarding that:
1. The Lone Wolf site says you need a dust cover. What would happen without one? Would you just have a gap under the slide where the frame ends?
2. Is the reverse possible, e.g. put the G19 slide on the G34 frame?

No, you can not put a 34 slide on a 19 frame without a LWD dust cover. We invented it.... we demand you use it!
No, you can not put a 19 slide on a 34 frame. The locking lug is different, the frame is longer and we have not invented any such thing to allow it so.... it is forbidden!
