Surefire x300, 170 lumens, and $200+ dollars.
Streamlight TRL-1 135 lumens, and $100+ dollars
Which one and why? Thanks.

I love my TLR-1. The 135 lumen LED is plenty bright. Its also 100 dollars cheaper than the surefire and does the same job.
I don't have both but I do have an old Surefire X200. It is well made and always works. I just ordered a Surefire X400. I like to stick with what works best for me.

Surefire makes bombproof lights, but you pay for it.
I have Streamlight and Surefire lights and for me the Streamlights have been excellent performers. I would go with the TLR-1 and spend the other $100 on ammo. Especially for inside the home, getting much above 130 lumens gets almost too bright.

Unless you are a LEO or involved in a combat environment, the TLR-1 will serve you fine. The Surefires are as rugged as you can get, but is it necessary in a HD environment? I don't feel it is. As someone said, use the extra money for ammo!.

You never know until you need it. I'd rather spend the extra money and never need to use it for real than wish I had it.
TLR-1 = 135 Lumens
TLR-1s (Strobe Model) = 160 Lumens.
Get the strobe model, increases lumens up to 160 and is only a couple bucks more. Awesome tac light.

HARDLY. Lots of LEO'S use them with no problems
budgets are tight these days

Another great option is the Insight WX-150. Build Quality is outstanding, 150 lumens, strobe feature, and great controls.
IMO, it falls right inbetween the Surefires and the Streamlights on the quality ladder. Its an outstanding light!
TLR-1 with my eyes closed any day!
Why pay for the pricey stuff???
The X300 costs $250.

Excellent suggestion. I have an Insight M6X and have ordered the150 lumen LED upgrade kit. This will put it on a par with the others mentioned.The Insight mounting system is actually better than the others, which use a screw clamp. Insight use a spring loaded latch bar. No tools required. Easy on and off.
WX 150 is outstanding and less money than the Surefire. If you have an unlimited budget certainly buy the Surefire. These days most of us don't

Not a waste if you need equipment that requires meeting the
MIL-STD-810, "Department of Defense Test Method Standard for Environmental Engineering Considerations and Laboratory Tests.
IIRC, the TLR does not and IIRC the Insight does.They sell a lot of gear to the military. Surefire definitely does if you require this level of ruggedness. Their lights can be submerged up to 22 meters of water no problem.
For HD any of them will work.

I'm saying that the Surefire is more likely to cut it.
If your budget is tight, by all means, buy what you can afford. A weapon light may not even be necessary at all in your HD environment. If that's the case then just save your money.

All great lights, I just feel you get a better bang for your buck with the Insight WX-150.

I completely agree. Thats why I went with the WX-150 and I couldnt be happier with my decision.

I can't make a recommendation, but what Homer said is both ridiculous and so very true. If you can afford it, you probably should go with the more expensive light. If you can't, well, a $100 light is better than nothing, right?
Let me put it another way. If they are identical for your application but one costs more then I'd smack you for even posting this. However, they may not be (one is brighter, and I gather from other posts that it's more rugged), so you'll have to decide which one is right for your needs AND budget. Sounds to me like the cheaper one provides enough light, from what others are saying. Personally, unless I heard horror stories about the cheaper one failing at the worst times, I'd probably go with that one. But keep in mind I'm what some would call "frugal" if they were trying to put it nicely.

THIS. I would have gone procyon if they made a DG11 pressure switch like the one for the surefire. SO X300 I went, and couldnt be happier

I have a Surefire X300 and love it, plus a Surefire M500 and Surefire 618FA. I also have a Insight M4Pro and it is a good tactical light.
What about the Viridian X5L Green laser/ strobe light. Are they any good?
