Right now I'm rocking Gold Dot 124gr +ps in 'Short barrel', which I was concerned about firing from a 4" barrel until in another thread a Speer employee advised me that the were the best choice for barrel </=4" in semi-autos.

The other nine' rounds I like exceed HK's 124gr recommended weight limit (PDX1 147 and Federal HST 147s).

Just wanted to know what y'all have chosen specifically for carrying the P7.
Thanks all.

124 grain HST, standard pressure. I don't think the P7 barrel is short by any means.

^It's not. And I was very concerned about this until I read a thread on the High Road where a member emailed Speer and was given this response.

"
This is the response that I received from Speer;

Tim: the "SB" determination is caliber dependent on barrel length. In 9mm, the SB is made for 4" guns, your wife did good selecting that ammo.

The 9x19 had sub-guns in mind too, I guess...and 5" barrels.

Good to know, also good to know that people working at CCI/Speer have grammar issues.

:rofl: Yes, but they 'do so good' at making those poppers.

Ducnan;
Wow those are definately my next SD round purchase, thanks for the link. 1400fps in 115 and 1300fps in 124!!!:supergrin:

Happy Hunting,
Stop delaying the pain and buy one now. You'll thank me and everyone else who encouraged your decision after your first range trip.
P7 IS the best all-around personal protection pistol for an individual citizen's EDC; and that's only about a third of why it's so awesome.

124 gr. NATO Winchester Ranger
127+P+ Winchester Ranger

Either or. I really like the 127...however the NATO Ranger is awesome as well.

I like the CorBon 115 JHP +P ammo. It has virtually zero muzzle flash in the dark, burns very clean and clocks at about 1300 FPS out of a P7.
Note that the P7 performs like a pistol which has a barrel length less than 4 inches. That is because of the flutes in the chamber bleed off high pressure gas to float the case which starts extracting immediately on firing. The low friction polygonal rifling helps a little to offset the gas leak. By comparison, I get the same MV as the P7 from a G26 which has a 3.46 inch barrel length!

HK does not recommend using 147 gr ammo in the P7 for a good reason. Many people have tried it and found it to be unreliable. Donít blame HK, this low power subsonic ammo came on the market after the P7 was invented.

Back on the subject of CCW, do you test your carry ammo for flash in a very low light setting. Do you know if it produces a blinding fireball? A lot of ammo has a very bright flash. The CorBon 115 JHP +P ammo has virtually zero flash in the dark. I never thought this was possible till I saw it myself.

Good luck!

George,
Informative post about the barrel on the P7, good to know. I like the Cor-Bons quite a bit traditionally, and may pick some up. In a concealed carry defensive situation I almost worry about over penetration being deadly to unwanted recipients in the background.
I've not tested these Gold Dots at night. They claim to use 'ultra low flash accelerants'.

^shootr, nice grab. Enjoy.
