View Full Version : good magnification for spotting scope?
I'm interested in buying a spotting scope for .22 plinking out to 100 yards. What kind of magnification would be appropriate to see the .22 holes at that range?

Nope.....17 views with no help......
OK, I'll try...........
What is your budget?
I think a average pair of binocs ($50) and some shoot & see's ($5. +/-) would work fine for low budget setup.
I tried using a cheap pair of binocs and could see well enough. My 9x scope is barely adequate.

I've got $24 in my paypal account, so I'm bidding on ebay. I know that's nothing, but so far I found a 20x40 bushnell scope for that amount. Will that be enough?

A 20X scope will make your 100yd target appear as if it were 5 yds away. Can you clearly see the holes at 5 yds with the detail you want? If so, it will work. That would be the very minimum I would want.
