View Full Version : How much does 1000 rounds of .223 go for nowadays?
I had an AK a while back and paid over $200 ($224 or something) for 1000 rounds of 7.62x39 shipped. I'm curious; is it cheaper to shoot .223?

No. The cheapest ammo I can find is BVAC from Cheaper than Dirt, for around $335 - $360 depending on the bullet weight. You used to be able to get Wolf for around $300 per thousand, but I don't think it's that cheap anymore and I really prefer shooting brass, anyway.

I just ordered that AIM deal on Wolf .223...for some reasons shipping for 2000 rds wasn't much more than it was for 1000...anyways, got 2000 rds for $412 shipped.
If you are buying the brass factory stuff, prices seem to start around $300 plus shipping per 1000.
Holy crap, that's expensive!!! I thought that the smaller round would be cheaper. Is 7.62x39 still around $200 per thousand?

If you've got 1000 pieces of .223 brass, send it to BulletBoyAmmo.com. His cost will be $240 loaded and it's what I primarily shoot. Definitely cheaper than buying factory all the time, AND I guarantee it's more accurate/reliable. Check him out!
edit: Forgot to mention, he has his FFL 06 license and is legally licensed to remanufacture ammunition, provided you send him your brass.
I'm lucky to have cheaper than dirt close by. .31 cents a round for brass!

If you compare Russian x39 and Russian .223, the price is about the same. But when you look at the non-Russian, reloadable brass .223, then the price jumps up dramatically. That's the stuff around $300.
$200 give or take is the going rate for x39. A few vendors do have it for less than that, so it pays to shop around.

I bought Federal XM193 in a bulk box of 1,000 which came in a loose plastic bag for $300 + tax which came out to a tad under $330 here in SoCal. I also mail ordered Wolf from Sportsmansguide, 1,000 rounds in 2 packs of 500 rounds packed 25 boxes per rectangular container... forgot how much that was... but wasn't too much more than what you guys paid for Wolf, I don't think. Forgot, it's been a while.

If you can find a bud, split two cases @ $289/1000 + shipping.

That's not a bad deal at all.
I use to buy from Natchez a lot, but haven't for a while because their prices seemed to get out of hand and better deals could be found elsewhere. I might have to start checking them out again.

The brass case adds $$$. Most Russian is steel cased.
