I'm going to be wiping a couple laptops; one running Vista, the other XP, and doing a clean install of Windows 7 Professional on each.

Nothing else is going to change; RAM, HD, etc.

There is currently a fully licensed and functional copy of Office 2007 running on each laptop.

Is it possible to somehow transfer the Office key/installation to the laptop after I install 7?

No, the original discs are not available, unfortunately...

I have heard, but never used, key recovery products that can pull the key from the registry. Can't advise you on the usability or accuracy of these products.

Here's what I found on the knowledge base

MS Product Activation:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/811224
Replace Lost Product Keys:
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/help/replace-lost-office-product-keys-HA001150834.aspx

I would try calling MS themselves prior to the move, and see what they can do for you. This way the product is activated and installed so MS should be able to do something for you.

Let us know how this turns out!

If you can get the key that's the hard part. Any disk should work after that and just use the key.

I keep a program called Belarc on all my systems and whenever I add a new program, I run Belarc and print out the results as it gives me a complete list of my programs, their registration keys and serial numbers.

Belarc will get the key, as will magicaljellybean and MS keyfinder 2.0. There is a hardware/sw package called 'laplink' that will migrate sw, settings, documents, anything you select from one machine to the other. The other day I migrated a users w2k box to a spanking new Dell XPS with the i7 processor and 9gb ram. Wordperfect 10 never looked so good!
