I wasn't able to find ammo locally, but it wasn't a problem finding it online. Georgia Arms was back-ordered, so I had to go an alternate route for FMJ. Got free shipping at one place for an order over $75. Anyway, here's what's coming:

100 Speer Gold Dots 185 gr. (2 X 50 round boxes)
100 American Eagle FMJ 185 gr.
50 WWB FMJ 230 gr.

$155 for 250 rounds. That's .62 a round. I guess that's not too bad considering 100 rounds are premium SD rounds.

After I decide if I really like the G39, I'll start buying by the case.

Just FYI - GA Arms frequents gun shows in the state. Here's a good website with the listing of gun shows in GA.
http://www.gunshows-usa.com/georgia_gun_shows.htm

While they are backordered for online orders, they almost always have ammo at the shows. You pay ~$8 to get into the show, but you save more than that by avoiding shipping charges.

I wouldn't recommend buying brand name ammo like Speer at the gun shows in GA. The pricing is not good, IMHO. But GA Arms has reasonable prices on their ammo (which is reloads) at the shows.

Just trying to help.

Thanks for the heads up. I'll look for them at the next show in Gainesville or Lawrenceville.

Thanks for the heads up. I'll look for them at the next show in Gainesville or Lawrenceville.

If all you want at the show is GA Arms ammo, the Lawrenceville show at the fairgrounds is less crowded and will have what you want. The Eastman's shows are much bigger, but also more crowded.

I usually go to the Gainesville show once a year and sell any guns that I've bought and don't care about keeping. So far, I've never bought anything at the show. Prices are too high. Never looked for ammo though.

Wasnt there a problem with super hard primers or something??

I think I remember reading that somewhere.

If it is the case, i hope they fix it. Really like their ammo.

Sportsman's Guide had American Eagle 185gr FMJ GAP ammo in stock. And if you're a member ($23.72 bx), you can buy 500 rounds and use their 4 PAY option so as to keep the wallet from taking a big one time hit.

Just picked up my NIB 39 last night: awaiting delivery of my NIB 38 purchased off of GB.

I ordered 200 rounds of Federal American Eagle Red Box from Kittery Trading Post (thanks Melissa) at $24.95 per 50 with FREE shipping http://www.kitterytradingpost.com/product.php/pid/2/sid/1/tid/3/prodid/287 and will add another 2-500 rounds from various Gun Broker and Auction Arms auctions at slightly better cost per round over the next couple of weeks.

I also ordered 100 rounds of self-defense Corbon DPX from Barnes Bullets http://barnesbullets.myshopify.com/products/corbon-dpx-pistol-ammunition-45-gap-160-gr also with FREE shipping (Speer may have somewhat comparable SD bullets at a lower cost, but I have switched over from Winchester Ranger's to the deep penetration, consistent expansion and near 100% weight retention of the DPX bullet for self defense rounds in all my calibers) ... and the Barnes site was the best 'bang for buck' I could find for that particular round.

I'm almost all GAP for carry - very excited. Thanks to all.

Thanks Slug - your posts were a big part of my decision to go GAP.

I really don't know why people are so indignant about GAP's ... who the heck cares which Glock you shoot and why. I have friends that swear by 9mm and I personally wouldn't count on that round for my self defense, but G_d Bless them for carrying and support them without criticism.

I am a long-time fan of the .45 round for self defense and for my hands and shooting style 'it was the answer to the question I was asking' - so if anyone wants to know, I'm the one who's been asking!

Now I just wonder why it took me so long to come around!

Well glad you took the plunge and found my posts somewhat informative. At least now you have first hand experience with it.

I just got a OD G27 and next will be a OD G38. Im already thinking i may end up trading the G27 for a G39.

But yeh goodness knows why it gets flamed so bad. Its only 7 years old and 2 of those years really dont count because of the recession.

The compact frame fits my hand like a glove and the recoil of the G38 is very smooth. Havent shot the G39 but i have shot the G27 and i much prefer that frame over the G36 which i had.

For me the GAP just shoots better than both the .40 and .45ACP.
