Hi,

Anyone familiar with Nighthawks T3 UCP? I have a fullsize WC CQB on order, but I'm already thinking of a Commander for next year. Your thoughts?
Thanks

I handled a SS one and it was very nice. I have one NHC and another on order, I think they make excellent pistols, but they are pricey and the wait times are long.

Buds recently had some very nice ones in stock.
I would love to get a T3 someday, or similar platform from another builder.

The weapon makes no sense to me - you give up one round for the Officer's frame then build the frame right back up to Commander height with a magwell.

It looks nice and feels good in the hand, but in the final analysis, I bought a hard chrome Les Baer Commanche Special instead.

Thanks, I just saw they had a SS version with Polished Black contrast slide for only $2525. I asked them to send me some pics and when it was manufactured. The SS version retails for 3K. Lets see what they say and what it looks like.

Thanks, I thought about that also. But even with the low profile magwell, it's still shorter than the gov't frame while allowing faster mag reloads and more of a full grip then the standard officers frame. I've seen a few test targets and they have been 3 shoots at 15 yards with one hole. I also like Heinie sights w/ white outlined FS over any 3 dot setup for my eyes.

I like them and im currently deciding between a black t3 or a predator.... It has nice features like the magwell though that does increase the officers frame size its still a nice feature.

Thanks, I saw that one. Need to ask George about that new black finish that is $200 extra. :dunno: I was thinking of a WC Professional Bobtail, but I think I'd rather stick with bushing barrels. Not positive though.

I like the Predator also. Especially a bob-tailed version.

I like Nighthawk Customs, but I owned a T3 for a very short time a couple years ago and I had so many problems with it, I gave. Totally unsatisfactory experience all the way around.

Wow, was that about the time they first came out? I've heard of some issue with .40 cal version, but not the .45s. I'm also thinking that may have been the time NHC was going through some "growing pains". Thanks

It was a few months after they came out. It was a .45 and "growing pains" is kind of an understatement on this specific pistol. It was so bad, I sold the other two NHC's that I owned soon after. They make a nice pistol, but I have a pretty long memory when it comes to losing a bunch of money on a pistol at that price point because it would would not function after repeated trips back to Arkansas. I will own a NHC again....but NO WAY would I ever look at another T3. I understand a bad one falls through the cracks now and again......but there are better options out there that can fill that niche for me.

That is my opinion of the T-3.

But it is a nice gun.....way, way too expensive, but nice.

I too was considering the T3 for a while, but then that point just stuck out and didn't really make sense with me either. Guess they are trying to differentiate their CCO's from other CCO's.

There's only one thing I don't like about my T3 .45 with Diamond Black Finish - the sharp checkering on the front strap. Otherwise, it has been pretty much flawless and is superbly accurate. Nice to carry occasionally. When I first handled one at Scottsdale Gun Club, I was enamored with it. Had to have one, and got it from George at Gunslingers.

But then George had a CQB Compact for sale, so I bought that one. And I have to say, the WC CQB Compact seems more refined, smoother, better front strap checkering and carries well also.

I probably wouldn't have bought the T3 if I had seen the CQB first, but I don't regret buying or owning it now.

Regards,
James

I think NH makes super good 1911's, but to me the extra $ is hard to justify. I love the way the T3 looks, i just dont anticipate myself buying one even if i had the funds

You already answered your own question. Get the commander, not the T3.

Seriously, just get a Talon II, its a true commander.

Thanks guys, the T3 was just a thought. I will stick with a true commander on gov't frame. Bobtail version though.

Excellent decision. There are a lot of good choices in that market space.

Here's another of my choices - an Ed Brown Kobra Carry. It's not as rugged as the Baer, but, in my hands, it's more accurate. This probably stems from the fact that the Brown has a lighter trigger release - the Baer breaks at 4 lbs, the Brown at 3.5 lbs.

Good advice, but I'd skip the orthopedic trigger.
