thanks bac for the 1911 info. though i'll never be able to afford the high ends, the les baer info is invaluable. for the last 25 yrs., production 45's have been all i've been able to afford. the trs is gonna change that unless my iraqi dinars are revalued 3 to1. i'm not a colt fanboy, i've just been very lucky with them. 6 to date and not a problem. can't say the same for kimber but 1911tuner helped me figure that out and wilson combat is gonna fix it. thanks again for the effort. you've helped more than you realize.

Thanks. All the info from everybody in that sticky is outstanding.

Knowing that my thread has helped a few of you make a decision, certainly make me feel my time was well spent.

...by the way, the pics that are down in that guide will be back up very shortly. :)

right. i didn't mean to just single out bac. all the info from quack, shortcut, cmg and nestor. absolutely invaluable. my old man was a cop. the second pistol i ever shot was a nickeled gov. model. so you think you know a lot about certain gun models until you meet people who've made it their passion. i joined gt earlier this yr and know more now than i learned in the previous 25 yrs. gt deserves an entry in wikepedia. best gun board by far.

Very cool to hear.

I also find this the best 1911 forum around. :)

I don't own a 1911 yet, and it may be a few years as I want a *good* one when I do. But I've just spent several hours reading through the stickies, alongside reading through some of the manufacturer's sites.

That sticky probably IS one of the best stickies on the bar.... except for maybe the one in the RELOADING forum, which helped me get started in reloading last year.

I was originally leaning towards something along the lines of a Wilson Combat, but now it might be a Les Baer. Great looking guns, and accurate as well.

Thanks guys, there's some GREAT knowledge here.

skip the Baer and get a Springfield Custom Carry from the Custom Shop.

I have to second what's been said here. I'm in the process of deciding what to buy for my first 1911, and that sticky has been an invaluable resource. So thanks to all that contributed to it, all of your work has not gone unnoticed and it's greatly appreciated.

Figure I'd better jump in this lovefest and give props for that stickie and this 1911 fourm in general. My only 1911 experience is with my Series 70 reissue Colt, but I make a habit of lurking here and may soon be reaching into semi custom territory as a result. This is by far my favorite 1911 forum.
