View Full Version : Why a flat trigger?

so people are always asking why i prefer flat triggers.
my response is because of how my trigger finger wants to sit on the trigger. If i grip the gun with my support (left) hand to fire, it sits straight across the trigger as opposed to the angle that my strong (right) hand trigger finger wants to naturally go.

Anything that makes the trigger longer I am all for.. altho I would have to shoot one before I install one..

Quack

the trigger isn't longer at all. a flat trigger is the same length as the shortest part of a long curved trigger.

I havent shot a 1911 with a flat trigger, so I can't say how Id like the functionality of it, but I personally don't like the looks of it at all. Just doesn't look right. I know Doug Koenig uses one, and he seems to shoot ok with it (understatement!!!!). Im thinking about actually switching the trigger on my TRP to a short GI style trigger. (the skelonized one made by STI)

I tried a flat trigger on a shop owners 1911 once. I shot it ok but the feel left something to be desired. To me my finger stays put in one spot much easier with a long curved trigger which adds to weapon and trigger control IMO. Its easier to slide your finger over a smooth even plane than it is if there are dips along the way.

Lastly, I think it looks terrible.
