A client took me out to lunch the other day.
I got back to the shop and set about fitting up a grip safety.
Finished it up and called it a day.
Next morning I opened the safe and found this. Maybe I had grabbed the wrong fitting jig?
I guess I should have said 'No' to that 3rd martini!

Well, although not the worst job I've seen, I decided to try to tighten it up a bit.
Started by milling off the previous afternoon's work.

Then I poked around in my scrap bin and found a couple of small steel blocks and silver-soldered them on the frame.

After some beltsanding and sandblasting, I think it might be good enough to sell!

You might be able to sell the Brooklyn Bridge to some, but I firmly disbelieve the part about you having done the first installation.

Beautiful recovery.

+1 I KNOW you did not fit that first grip saftey ! I am just gald it said Colt and not Springfield on the frame. After all thye other bad work the "Custom" shop did to my gun it wouldn't suprise me if the grip safety looked like that !!!:crying:

nice recovery but, to be honest, I would be pissed if that was my pistol. I wouldn't trust that pistol with my life knowing part of the safey pin hole is soldered

dakrat,
I thought of replacing the frame, but Essex wouldn't put the Colt engraving on a frame for me.

Some friendly advise...
If you drink do not work on guns.
Plenty of other things to do while intoxicated.

Some friendly advice. Look up "facetious" in the dictionary.

Dakrat, silver soldering is commonly used in high heat/stress applications. Far above what a thumbsafety hole on a 1911 sees. But go with whatever makes you feel all warm and fuzzy.

Back off MD357, I didn't mean it to be hurtful.
Just seems like a lot of extra work could have been avoided if he just watched a movie or something.

Do you finally get it that he wasn't being serious?? :wavey:

I know what Facetious means.
I didn't think it was inappropriate to advise not working on guns after your buzzed from three martinis.
So, your saying he didn't mean it.
What did he mean then?
Let's see. Client took him out to lunch.
3 martinis.
Worked on a gun and in the morning realized that he messed it up.
What am I missing here?
Why are you being so defensive for him?
I know who he is.
I know he does great work.
So? I can't say something to him without you taking offense to it?

If you say so. Not really believing you though, otherwise you wouldn't be asking those questions.

Why are you being so defensive for him?

I was merely pointing out what may not be obvious to some? Hint: Some other people in the thread also caught his facetiousness.

That still looked better than the CO Arms grip safeties I've seen...and no, I was not including any facetiousness. :tongueout:

Ok, I get it. He was joking about it and actually fixed someone elses screw up.
I certainly did not see that one when I read this.
It seemed believable to me.
I wouldn't work on anything after three martinis.
He would have to fix it for me for sure!!!

I don't even like martinis unless they are cold and made with gin.

Nice job, Pistolwrench.

For those who don't know, the through-the-hull fittings on nuclear submarines are silver soldered.
