I noticed something today while I was working on a couple of Springfield Armory Mil-Specs.
The hammers have an extra hook above the half cock notch.
Anyone else ever notice this?
Anyone know why they are there?
Also the stock hammers have the deepest half cock hooks I've ever seen.
The actual sear engagement hooks were not in bad shape.
Fairly square and about .025 and only needed to be cleaned up a bit and polished.
Sear and disconnector were not all that great. They needed a lot of work.
Just thought that was interesting about the extra hooks.

I've noticed three clicks when cocking at the gun shop, but I've never had one apart. I figured the extra hook.

It`s because in Brazil they use a different numbering system.

I don't understand why they would use them since the half cock notch is like the deepest industrial strength notches I've ever seen on a 1911 hammer.
I wonder if it is some extre safety crap that some lawyer dictated or some California politician demanded.
I hope not because that would hurt my image of a pretty good company that make a decent 1911.
It would make sense though...
The MSH internal lock?
The titanium with heavy spring firing pin?
They better never make a series 80 firing pin block!!! :)

LMAO!

It's an extra half cock feature they started adding. So they have quarter cock, half cock and whole cock.

I have seen the type.
The 1911 hammer started out with full cock and true captive half cock notches.
Colt introduced the flat "safety stop" with the Series 80 guns.

For some reason, Springfield has made some (but not all or even most) hammers with both setups, the "safety stop" at quarter cock, a real captive half cock, and the full cock hooks. Don't ask me why, it makes no sense. Maybe it is for a government contract. But that is saying the same thing.
