I wanted a 22 revolver for shooting with my daughters...
I was set on a ruger sp101 but then I found the 351.
Which way should I go....:dunno:

Ruger Mk III will probably be less expensive anyway...(I'd personally look for an older MKII, if possible)
Even though .22s are almost recoil-free anyway, the PD is a very lightweight revolver...
What little recoil there is, it is even further muted with the 34-36 ounce bull barrel Ruger...

The 351 is a 22 magnum. It will cost almost ten times more to shoot. The 317 is the lightweight airtight like the 351 but 8 rss. Instead of 7, both are small frames. They make medium frame, four inch, ten shot, all steel guns that would be the perfect gun to introduce them to shooting.
I have the 351, 317, and 617 and for just range shooting and general all round plinking I'd recommend the 617 four inch. Heavy, but a tack driver.

I also currently have a 8-shot S&W 317 2" and a 10-shot S&W 617 4", and I have to agree that the four-inch 617 would probably be the best choice for this application. The only exception would be if S&W would agree to fit a second cylinder to a model 351, chambered for .22 LR. I know they would do this decades ago for guns originally chambered in .22 WMR, but I heard they stopped offering this through the factory a long time ago.

Tim43,
Re the 617 4"
How accurate is accurate, Im contemplating 617 or a sw classic, liking the stainless 617, trying to decide between the 4 and 6 inch barrel.
I already own a Ruger MK111 hunter for range practice; the 617 will be used for woods gun, plinking etc. I like carrying 4inch barrel revolvers better, have not been able to find much in holster selection for 617 6"

Here's the best group from the first range trip with my 617, back when the revolver was new, and my eyes were a bit sharper:

I was happy with these results.
