Looking for My First 1911 [Archive]

Hey everyone,
I've been doing alot of research recently on inexpensive 1911's to break into the scene with. I thought I had it narrowed down to the Rock Island Armory Compact Tactical w/ novack sights for around $480. However, yesterday at my local gunshop they had an ATI FX Titan Blue 1911, used for $450. I REALLY liked the look and feel and it seems to be made in the Phillipines like the RIA (Armscor?). Does anyone have any experience with these guns? Any comments or opinions are welcome.

both good guns. the ATI is made in the PI by S.A.M. (Shooters Arms Mfg). the other 2 Filippino 1911 manufacturers are Armscor (RIA/Citadel/STI Spartan) and Metro Arms (American Classic)

At the last gun show, I was really impressed with ATI's 1911. The fit was really nice for the price. If I was in the market for another Officer, it would be on the list.

Are you 100% sure that STI Spartan are made by the Filipinos?
STI claims that STI Spartns are 100% made in Texas mine is stamped:
STI GEORGETOWN TEXAS?????

A The GP6 model is built for STI (to STI specifications) by Grand Power in Slovakia. The Spartan is built for STI (to STI specifications) in the Philippines by the STI division of Armscorp. All of the rest of our pistols are built right here in Georgetown, TX.

I agree Quack.

As much as I like Armscor and Metro, SAM is as good or better, in my opinion.

They're built in the Philippines by Armscor and fitted with STI small parts.

The Trojan is built in Texas, not the Spartan. They're two completely different 1911s.

Check that label on the bottom of the dust cover. :whistling:
