View Full Version : Best Mags for a Kimber Pro Carry
I have been looking at a brand new stainless 4 inch Kimber Pro Carry. I am new to the 1911 platform and need some advice / suggestions. I know that the mag that comes with the Kimber, 7 round one is a junky mag to use. What should I buy if I pull the trigger on the sale. The local gun shop owner swears buy the upgraded, Kim Pro Tac Mags, 8 round full size stainless steel mags. They are $25 each. He thinks those would be the best for the gun. I am looking to buy probably 4 mags, that way I can go through the breakin period faster. Should I just take his advice and stick with Kimber products, ie. KIM PRO or are there better choices for my particular future gun ?
the one's that work. all guns are different, so you have to find what works for you.
I have a Kimber Pro Carry SLE. I use Wilson 47D's. Never had a problem with them. The work great. Like Quack says, they might not work for you. Try one and see how it work. Just buy quality mags!
I assume you're going to carry concealed. If so, flush fitting mags are much nicer. I've got a couple of the Kimpro mags that are doing just fine. My favorites are McCormick's Match Grade. Twin sister to their famous PowerMags, but have a flush welded baseplate.
Had zero problems with my factory Kimber mag that came with my PC2. Also used a Wilson ETM.
Tripps are good too.
My stainless factory 7-round mags have worked fine for me.
CMC Shooting Stars work great in my TLE.
I use the kim-pro Tac mags as well. 8 rounds/flush fitting they work great in my kimber.
my Kimber has worked flawlessly with all mags: Kimber factory, Colt Factory, Ed Brown and misc.
I use Wilson and Tripp Cobra mags in ALL of my 1911's. Period.
The gun dealer will tell you that whatever mags he has in stock are the best. I didn't like that supplied mag that came with my Ultra Carry; I use Wilsons with the low profile steel base pad and CMC shooting stars.
Wilson 47 d's in my pro carry II. Never one hiccup. Runs great, and I have tried a bunch of mags. ;)
wilson, tripp, cmc, metalform are all good options
For my 4" Kimber Compact, I CCW Wilsons with the flat steel baseplates, and use Kimber Tac Pro and Tripps at the range. My limited use with the MF mag has worked, too. ACT (e.g. Novak) mags don't like LSCW much.
I had all the same mags above, and also had CMC Power Mags for my 5". Those CMCs were nice. Use a skirted follower with aluminum frames.
My Eclipse Pro II has been flawless with Kimber Tac Pro mags, CMC power mags and shooting stars for that matter.
I use the Tac Pros for carry, the CMC's for range and IDPA.
I know that the mag that comes with the Kimber, 7 round one is a junky mag to use. ?
who told you that bit of nonsense??
Do the kim pro tac mags fit flush in the Pro carry II?
I had the same question just a couple of weeks ago. I bought 2 Wilson 8 rd mags Monday...they work and load a lot better then the Kimber mag.
I have an Ultra Raptor 2 Stainless that I was having a feed issue on the last round. I upgraded to the Kim Pro Tac and have been quite happy. Not 1 feed problem in over 300 rounds.
I use Wilson 47Ds and Mec-Gar mags with 47D followers. I also put a 47D follower in the 7 round mag that came with my gun, and it now holds 8 rounds. All mags run 100%.
My pro carry came with kimpro tac mags and works great even bought extras ,I think you might try what it comes with first. Great carry gun ,congrats if you get it
Wilson, Tripp, CMC, and Dawson's have always worked the best for me
69 Mach One
Wilson 47D work best for me since I have an extended mag well on my Pro CDPII & carry it everyday as my primary
I have had several bad Kimber mags, I have never had a Kim Pro Tac mag, but I'm askeered to buy one, because of of the regular mags being bad. Wilson and Tripp mags work for me.
