well i am getting a 1911 to add to the collection. i dont have anything that uses 45 and the most common caliber i have is 9mm. i know most will say go with a .45 but i rather not stock another caliber so i am gonna stick with 9mm. what are my options? i would prefer ss, full size and dont want to go to much above 1500. at this point from what i have read i am about to go with rock island which seems like a great gun for the price. i dont plan to carry it or use it for home defense.

I have been looking for a 9mm 1911 myself but I want something US made. I don't want a Wilson or Baer because I don't want to spend that much on it so IMO the best choice would probably be a Kimber Stainless II at around $800.

You want a REALLY good 5" 9mm 1911 under $1,500? Get a STI Trojan and have it hardchromed. You're welcome.

I would agree the Trojan would be the best option. I went with the sTI Spartan and i plan on refinishing it soon and it is also amazing. Much better trigger then whats on the RIA

9mm really limits your options in that price range.

Go with the Trojan.

DW Guardian is another option.

Trojan!

Had several recommend it on this forum, purchased one, and......... love it.

It was intended to be my wife's but, as I suspected, she doesn't want to shoot it that often (prefers her .22) and 'allows me to borrow it whenever I want to shoot it'.

Highly recommend it.

zhix didn't indicate a full size or not, so I threw it out there. :whistling:

And it has a full size frame... :tongueout:

if you want "shiny", get a Trojan and hard chrome it.
if you can find one for a good price, a Springfield Loaded is OK.
for small carry, an EMP
for Commander sized carry, then a DW Guardian or STI Ranger II

here's my 9mm's

I vote for the RIA Tactical 9mm. It is a pure joy to shoot.

After my experiece, I can not recommend the RIA. I had great luck with my Kimber Target II though.

the sti trojen is very nice as is the springfield loaded. what is the main different between a ria, sti and a custom job like wilson and les baer? if i go with the sti ill leave the finish the way it is.

I would recommend the Dan Wesson PM-9. I owned a Springfield 9mm Target - it was supoer reliable but not very accurate. Initial groups were more than 6 in at 50 ft. After two trips to the factory the best it would do is 4= in. at 50 ft. I finally sold it and repalced it with the Dan Wesson PM-9 - 1 inch groups at 50 ft. In a double stack 9mm 1911 style the Para ordnance 18-9 is also a very accurate pistol - 1 1/2 inch grouips at 50 ft.

i think i am gonna go with the ria. if i like the way it shoots i might look at getting a better one. who knows i might consider a .45 too.

I definitely left the PM9 out because it is discontinued.... That is a BA pistol!! Congrats.... I passed on one about a year ago because i didnt like stainless and ive been kind of upset since considering i could have got a really good deal.

with the price increases from dan wesson i would hate to see what it would cost. i was able to find a nib guardian locally for 1500 but i prefer ss and full sized.
