View Full Version : Which 45acp load from a HK45? Opinions please.
Hello all, just purchased an HK45 and It will be my constant companion. What is the best defensive load for it--Winchester, Federal, Speer? Let me know what you think. Thanks!
They all make great hollow points. Whichever feeds the best and is most accurate for you.
I doubt you'll have feeding problems with that pistol but with the more difficult feeding pistols of all makes, the Remington hollow points of all bullet weights seem to feed more reliably than other brands in 45 ACP. In 45 ACP I find Remington the most reliable. If a pistol won't feed Remingtons, it likely won't feed any hollow points. I'm not a fan of Remington's quality control though. The FBI was using Remington 230 grain Golden Sabers but I think they've switched to 230 grain Winchester Ranger T's across the caliber range recently, in both 40 S&W and 45 ACP.
I load my USPf with 230 grain SXT +Ps but any quality JHP should work fine in it.
The one that works best in your pistol.
Gold Dot, HST, Ranger T are all top shelf.
My choice would be 230gr +p or standard pressure Speer Gold Dots.
I HATE 185 +p Golden Sabre
I love Federal in 200 +p, 230 +p
Any SPEER will do.
And it's an HK - it will likely consume whatever you put in it.
Also - on the cheap, I like Winchester White Box 230 JHP. But Wolf/Tula .45 FMJ will put a big hole in bad guys too...
It's hard to pick a bad load in .45ACP.
My favorites are Speer Gold Dots and Federal HST's, both 230gr, +P or not. Hornady is great too, as is Winchester, Remington, etc...
