First Vic Tibbets and now Ron Phillips. I guess working for yourself isn't all it's cracked up to be. Either that or Wilson pays their top smiths really well.

The success rate with start up companies these days are not very good. Glad to have both of them with WC though.

Glad to see Ron back at Wilson. Hopefully he'll have his hands on my next Wilson.

He was at nighthawk before he went on his own. He was at Wilson before that.

I could be mistaken, but I imagine Ron will only be working on Super Grades.

You have a point, but, I can at least wish. I had Ron flush crown my Kimber that I had hardchromed and after talking to him a couple of times about a custom build, he's a really great guy to deal with.

Yep.

I think he did some work on one of my Nighthawks too. He was there when I ordered my Predator back in '07.

Does anyone know why Phillips left NightHawk after being one of the principals in their formation?

Ron is one of the premier pistolsmith in the nation. His return to Wilson's is a testiment to Bill's commitment to quality. I'm sure he'll enjoy working with Jim Wilson and Vick Tibbits again. Now if Bill could get Chris Peters back from Metaloy..................

Not sure, but it must have been a fall out of some type. This may have been why he did not to go back there and decided to go to Wilson instead :dunno:. I personally prefer Wilsons, so I'm happy.

I would hate to see Chris leave Metaloy. He's a hardchroming guru in my book.

Who knows, other than him, or cares? If he's happy at Wilson, then I'm happy for Ron. Personally, in a selfish way,:whistling: I hate to see him go back, because I was going to have him do a build for me. But, obviously Ron wants to be back at Wilson and I think a great company just got even stronger.

The reason I asked has more to do with Nighthawk than it does with Ron. I want to add a Nighthawk to my collection, but it seems that they have launched themselves on an odd trajectory. I'm speculating that he left over philosophical differences in the commercial direction Nighthawk was taking and was looking for outside verification.

He probably thought this was a bad idea too, so he split.

Remove the Titleist ProV1 dimples, and that would be a badass gun. Shame. :shakehead:
