View Full Version : Are these available yet?
I'm thinking of picking up a 1911-style plinker, like the GSG.
I'm now wondering about these Brownings. Pricy though. I think they run $500, or at least that's the projected price.
Any info? :dunno:

I've been wanting one too. I would be willing to pay a little more for the Browning. I've heard good and bad about the GSG.
No, I don't have any info on it,but, that can't be a Browning.......... :dunno:
It doesn't have a gold trigger........... :wavey:

Where did you find that Brian? Browning's website doesn't have them on there.
I actually wish Browning would introduce a real 1911, like Remington did this year.
Who knows, maybe they will after this. :dunno:
What is the deal with the two holes on the right side of the slide? Pinned extractor? Looks odd.
Edit.....Oops.....Just realized it is a .22. My bad.....

Per a thread on Rimfire Central, these are 80% the size of a 1911. Kind of kills my interest as a plinker. If you want a rimfire consider a Kimber or Marvel conversion (depending on how much you want to spend).
Have fun whichever way you go BAC!

Well, I wouldn't buy it as a 1911 anyway, but that does kind of lessen my interest a bit.
What have you heard bad about the GSG? The only thing i have heard is that the barrel bushing breaks. But so what, replace it with a WC or the like and youll be good to go. Everything else i have heard has been great, if there is something negative can you please direct me to it because as soon as our distributors get one in i was planning on picking one up

Looks like they're 4.25" barrels. Due to its appearance, it must not share a 1911's dimensions. What a shame.

I did a lot of research on them, as I was planning to pick one up last week, but ultimately decided against it. I however, wanted to fund something else. Most people seem to praise the GSG, however there are also some known problems. As you mentioned, the barrel bushing was a known issue, but they since have gone to steel. I've also seen the slides break, and I've read the finishes aren't very good.
But, other than those issues...I've heard nothing but good things about them! And FWIW, I wouldn't pay over $330 for one (dealer cost is $275).

80% smaller? ...what the hell are they thinking??
The KImber conversion rocks.
I like the Cliners better though due to the standard GI sights. I don't like the 3 month wait to get them though!! But seeing they are 1/2 the price of the Kimber I seem to be able to wait it out.

i've never really understood why they haven't. unless they realize it would have to be perfect. that gun, that name. it MUST be perfect.
as for the .22, i like it. nice rollmarks, small sights (i shoot better with those original sights) and it's a browning. people can say what they will about a browning being overpriced, paying for the name, whatever. but i've owned several, and every one was not only asthetically beautiful, but it shot the lights out.
personally, i've always thought a full size 1911 in 22 was a lot of wasted metal anyway. but that's just me.
annnnnd, i think it would look really nice on your carpet.:wavey:

I hear you, but I would want it to feel like the real thing. If its only 80% of the size, it certainly won't. :dunno:
The 80% size thing kills it for me as well.
There are sometimes where I need to practice a lot with a 1911.
Reloading helps me shoot more, but a Kimber conversion kit helps me shoot a metric poop ton more. I can't see myself going with a 1911 style smaller gun.
A Colt Ace isn't exactly the same size as a 1911, either, but I wouldn't mind having one. I'd try out the Browning.

I'm surprised she's holding that with one hand, I would of thought the weight of it dropping out would make her drop that lol.

Took my kids (4 & 2) to the circus a few weeks ago. Easily the highlight of the performance was when an elephant dropped a deuce in the center ring and collectively....EVERY kid in the arena went "ewwwwww!!!" Classic.
Whoa...that's a lot.

but 80% the size of a 1911 is much better than 80% of a keltec.
