I bought a Smith & Wesson 3000 pump yesterday. 18.5" barrel, mag tube extension, parkerized, and the kicker- all wood furniture. I love the look.

It's not one you see everyday, part of the appeal I guess.

sweet looking gun

Nice gun.
Get some cheap ammo at Wallyworld and go out and shoot it
and shoot it some more. Smooth her out and break her in and
get to know how she works so you can operate her with your
eyes closed.
Load her up with some good low recoil buckshot and sleep well.

wow nice! how much did you pick it up for if you dont mind me asking?

Very nice. I am always on the lookout for a KISS 12 gauge pump like that.

Thanks guys! $260. I think it's worth every bit of it too. Keep in mind, they stopped importing these (made in Japan by Howa) in 1984. They are "tweaked" clones of the 870, arguably a much better made shotgun. The action is butter smooth. I can't wait to put a couple of boxes through her. I picked up a box each of full strength 7 1/2 shot, reduced recoil 8 shot, full strength 00 buck and slugs. I plan on burning through the bird shot first and just a couple each of the 00 and slugs. The rest of the 00 and slugs will be relegated to HD.

congratulations on your acquisition.

Nice Shotgun and a good deal!!!

Nice man. I found one non parkerized with a speed feed stock for $140. good deal or not?

11-09-2010, 09:15
Yep, good price. Be forewarned that parts are kinda scarce. Including tac gear, if it doesn't have an extended mag tube, you may not be able to find one.

11-09-2010, 14:56
Since you say it is an 870 copy, will an 870 extension not work?

11-09-2010, 17:01
Nice find. I would have jumped all over that deal. I have a police trade in beater, its a great gun. Slicker than a bucket of snail snot.

Nope, they are a clone of the 870, but virtually no parts interchange. If you want one keep your eyes open for S&W 3000, and Mossberg 3000. After S&W stopped importing them in '84, Mossberg bought the rights to it and marketed it as their own for a few years. Numrich still has some parts in stock, and I'll probably pick up an entire carrier bolt assy when I can put together the $. You can't find a firing pin spring for it, but you can get the whole assy.

It sure looks and sounds like a great deal. I don't know anything about them-are they better than the current 870Ps?

11-09-2010, 21:53
I think it was a solid deal... Jam it full with your choice of party favors and guard your Lair...

In action!

Sweet find! Congrats on your find. Looks more like a Winchester 1200/1300 to me than a Howa. Love those clean lines.

Very nice !

Just pure classy looking.. Fantastic deal!

A few comments - try a few loads for it: 3" (if it takes them) normal, and low recoil. For in door work I feel low recoil is beyong just fine and it gets you back on target faster.

Patterna few to see how much (actually how little spread there is at indoor distances.

Pick up a few slugs just to get a feel for the "reach out and touch someone" factor at 50-100 yards.

Great gun! You say Mossberg 3000????

Great gun! You say Mossberg 3000????

Same same. When S&W stopped importing them, Mossberg picked up the rights for a few years. Same exact shotgun.

I have shot some sporting clays loads, reduced recoil bird shot, slugs and 00 buck through it so far. The sporting clays loads hurt to shoot. Slugs were hitting high at about 10 yards, I had to replace the bead sight because it came off, so I left it sitting up higher to see if I could tame that a little bit. Other than that, this thing runs quick and is smooth as butter. It will be in my casket when I kick the bucket.

I came real close to buying an older used S&W 12 ga. pump this summer. However, I decided to think about it for a few days and when I went back to buy it, it was gone. So, I'm real interested in hearing how yours functions and shoots. Please keep us posted. Oh, and that stock and forearm looks great.

EDIT: I typed this before I read your last post. Sounds and looks like you got a real winner. Congrats!!
