Help me choose my pride & joy!

I've been preparing to take the higher end 1911 plunge. To keep it simple....if you can have only one $3000-$3500 1911 what would it be? What is the end all be all of workmanship in that category? If it's something that takes a while to order i'm ok with that.

I don't think there is an end all in this price range, or any range, it's all about what your expectations are.

If you would be interested in a RRA in about 99%, i can keep an eye out for you at the gun show this weekend. The last show i was at the guy had a WC, KC, and RRA all 3 were in AMAZING condition, he might never have shot them. Im sure it didnt sell though, most people probably didnt even know what they were looking at.

I don't think there is an end all in this price range, or any range, it's all about what your expectations are.

I agree if I was told I could only have one 1911 and it had to be in that price range I would go custom there's a lot of choices in that range.

I'm still planning to send one of my Colt's off to Mars Armament for a custom build and that will cost just under $2300.00 for the build and the gun cost about $860.00 so I will have about $3150.00 in when it's all said and done.

I had a few set backs which has kept me from getting this done but hopefully soon I can send it in. :cool:

Personally, I'd draw up a list of size/materials/features that you want on your 1911. Then figure out what sights/controls/finishes you like. When you get your ideal 1911 completely blueprinted, start looking for a smith who can make it happen. You may have to order all the parts yourself and send them to a smith, or the smith may want to handle that for you.

I went that route on my last 1911 and couldn't be happier because it is exactly the way I want it.

Go look at SVI. You can customize the gun down to the serial number.

If you keep it simple, you should be able to snag an Infinity for $3500. My build cost more than that a few years back and would be even higher today. However, if you stay away from the AET barrel and Infinicoat finish, it will save you a few bucks.

They are stellar 1911s, to say the least, and are certainly a step up from the models available from Brown, Wilson, Baer, or Nighthawk. Plus, its completely custom, not semi-custom. You design EXACTLY what you want. Options are nearly endless, hence the name. :supergrin:
