/sigh. It is a 12-15 month wait. :faint:My blood hurts.

Hang in there you will be very glad you did! Everyone has their "horse" in the race and defends their brand....BUT all I can tell you is search gunbroker, etc. for Wilson, LB, Brown, etc., and you will get pages of them for sale. Not a bad thing, just a fact. Now do the same for a Pro.

I got lucky and walked into my favorite gun shop and they had a PC9111 and a PC9111R. I new that would never happen again in my lifetime so I took savings that I really shouldn't have to buy them. They are great pistols but more than anything they are hard to find and like anything hard to find, well... we all know about supply and demand.

So for me, even if they are the same as a Wilson, LB etc., I would rather have one of them for that reason.

Good Luck, and enjoy the experience.

I waited close to 18 months on mine, so no sympathy from me :tongueout:
Only in about 10 months on my Custom Carry though.

Can you get those customized to your liking or do they come only one way?

The Pro only comes two ways, with a light rail and without. If you want options, the Custom Carry is the best choice.

I received my custom carry in 7 months but it was fairly straight forward. I am very impressed with SA's custom shop. I talked my wife into me getting a nice 1911 since next year is the 100 year anniversary lol. So I went aheah and placed my order. Hopefully I will have it in my hands by next Christmas.

I went wild on one CC and mild on the other. They told me 6-9 months when I ordered them. Still not a bad wait.

My wild one is off for finish, hope to have it soon.

Well, you usually have to go thru an FFL to close the deal with the Custom Shop - they need the FFl's info..

Also, if you go with someone like George at Gunslingers - he will sell it to you below Springfield's MSRP.

I saved about $230 by going with George. Plus, no sales tax. Had I ordered it thru my local shop, I would have paid MSRP AND sales tax.

Well, railed 1911s aren't for everyone. I always had a thing for the full railed Operators, though. They were discontinued, but when i saw I could get one from the custom shop, I jumped on it. I always regretted not buying on in 2003...

When I pick up another Ed brown, I plan to get one railed. I like the extra weight of the rail in reducing recoil.

I prev had an MC Operator, and I sold it to help pay for 1/2 the cost of my Ed Brown. But, it did have less felt recoil than my Brown (without a rail) - just a little.

Nah, I'm gonna get a gold brick holder - the extra weight will help with the recoil, and then I have a place to store gold bars :supergrin:

I own a PRO and I think you'll like it. They are really quite good, very solid performers. Nothing special in looks, just all work. It seems a "serious" piece to me. No frills, just straightforward "all work and no play", serious. Functional has it's own beauty. I still prefer the Les Baer Monolith Heavy for range shooting and looks. However, I'd carry the PRO if I wasn't so used to the Glock 23 and the weight/capacity. I'm trying to carry it more.

BlayGlock
11-15-2010, 07:59
I sent them my FFL's license and my order. I would not mind going through Gunslingers however, when I talked to him I was told I would be placed on list and I would get on when it is my turn and he recieved them. With the current backorder who knows how long that could be. By ordering directly from SA I know at least when I will be getting one. That is worth the extra $150 to me. I wont be paying tax on it anyway.

I have the same problem. I am a 1911 fanboy to the bone, but for some reason I cant stay away from my Glock 19. I carry that or a Kimber compact series I. I practice drawing and firing both enough that I am comfortable switching back and forth. I am on average about 0.4-0.5 second slower with my Glock on my shot timer because I am concentrating extra hard on that trigger.

My Springfield Custom Carry build has moved into the number one spot in my heart. I like it over all the other 1911s I have/had. That includes: RIA,STI, Kimber, Colt, Springfield factory guns, Nighthawk, Les Baer, Wilson Combat, Ed Brown, and some one-off customs. The only thing that would make them more win is if they offered a 3.5 lb trigger from the shop at no extra cost.

That's cool. When I ordered my Operator from them, they made me have my FFL contact them directly (George) to wrap things up. But, mine was a more specialized order, instead of a straightforward Pro which they make all the same. Maybe that is why. Did they make ya put 30% down?

I am right there with you, especially when my back is acting up like it has been for the the last week or so. I have a G17 that has been to Bowie Tactical for a reduction/chop to accept G19 mags. I prefer the 1911, but sometimes my sciatic needs a break....

Since you are having back problems lugging those heavy steel pistols around, I will do you a favor and take them off your hands. I will PM you my FFL so you can't get those heavy 1911s out of your rotation.

Sorry, the chromed one is the Bowie tactical. The black is the cold bore custom. The CBC guy did a great job of reshaping the grip so that it is more of a 1911 grip angle. It is very pleasent in the hand. However, since I am used to getting my hands up really high on the backstrap of my 1911 I have a tendency to get cut from time to time on by the slide.

That must be an older Bowie job. His newer stuff looks totally different. Lane does a nice job, too. I have Glocks from both of them. Lane is the best bang for the buck.....he has your Glock back to you in less than 2 weeks. I think David is backed up over 6 months!! Must be nice in this economy to have 6 months worth of work sitting on your bench.
