I believe the way Massad Ayoob wrote his American Handgunner magazine article, 357 SIG is second only to 40 S&W as the most popular cartridge for state police agencies. The 9mm has fallen to last place, while 45 GAP is gaining. So for a cartridge that is so poplar, there is not much activity in the TOP GUNS forum. It's been 16 days since the last post. Surely we can find something to post about, eh? I'm still waiting/watching for a post on the Hornady 147 XTP load in 357SIG.

Best caliber in a Sig Sauer!

In a Glock; I would want a model 38 Glock .45 gap!

It's the EDC cartridge I've settled on, after getting rid of all the Glocks indicated in my signature. The compact-frame Glocks with Pearce pinky extender fit my hands very well.

I reload only Speer nickled cases and use the 124XTP and SR4657.

The 'gold' bullets are Montana Gold's 124HPs that I use for full-power practice.

I picked up a G32 early this month, topped it with XS standard dot sights.

Love this caliber. Won't leave the house without it. Got a bunch of new starline brass and a set of hornady ti nitride dies. Now I just have to find some power pistol locally...

I wish there were more traffic here as well. Hopefully I can contribute...

I really like my G32 plus it's on my favorite platform the 19. I have 2 19's and carry +9+ when i carry one of them. I just need some better sights.
Thanks for the post this part of the forum is vey slow. Maybe we can give it some life, Thanks :wavey:

I just read in one of the gun mags that sales of 45 GAP are fading. I assume the author was writing about civilian sales; he didn't specify.

I hope someone misquoted him. Otherwise, that small town cop gun writer is wrong!

Look at Glock's 2006 sales data on calibers:

GLOCK sales by caliber in '06
.40 S&W: 116,100
9 mm: 104,700
.45 ACP: 43,800
357 SIG: 19,800
.45 GAP: 18,000
10 mm: 15,600

The number of state police agencies using a particular caliber would have nothing in common with total overall sales. Also, 2006 was several years ago.

+1 He was talking about State Police Agencies only. The State troopers of:
Delaware
Montana
New Mexico
North Carolina
Oklahoma
Rhode Island
South Dakota
Tennessee
Texas
Virginia

use the 357sig....

Mississippi I think carries the Glock 31 as well but I might be mistaken. But this pretty much is it here. There are also states that as a whole have more shootings that others, several are listed here.

The round works, and works well that is all. Mass has and keeps very up to date data on police involved shoots as well as civilian involved as he servers as an expert witness when needed. Saying that a very high % of shootings involving the 357 sig round end with 2 shots or less says two things about the round, one it works when placed correctly and the people involved in launching this potent and effect round did just that, put it where it needed to go.

During the testing I did which involved 9mm, 357sig, 40S&W, 45ACP and 10mm the rounds which were the most impressive by far were the 357 and the 10mm. There are tons of arguments that can be had about no one of these rounds being more effective than the others and one of the reasons I stopped my testing almost 3 years ago was due to the fact that people who have never tried to test for themselves will argue with you till they are blue in the face that you are wrong and they are right while sitting at home in the cpu chair.

Data is going to keep coming in from actual shootings, pathology reports from autopsies and other sources regarding shootings. Since the 357 sig is now a main stream and gaining cartridge in the LE community as well as the civilian arena more and more of this will become readily available for study.

What Mass said about this round being “different” and hard to explain regarding the overall effectiveness is exactly what I would call the reason if given the choice I would carry this caliber or a 10mm caliber weapon in every spot I would carry a handgun.

Most likely I am going to be exploring the new XDM Tactical in 357sig when made available and will continue to carry my Glocks chambered for that caliber as well. I am hoping for near the same data achieved when I used the Jarvis drop in barrel in my Glock 35 from the new tactical. If so I will have a 5+in barrel, factory barrel, to launch my favorite Double Tap loads from and will quickly become my new duty weapon.

A 125gr Gold Dot pushing 1600fps sounds damn good to me, not sure about you guys.
