I recently inhereted my dad's SW .357 magnum revolver model 66-3. It is a great looking gun. Up to this I have only owned glocks in 9 and 40 cal. I cant wait to shoot this gun and I am thinking about making it my home defense gun. Can someone please school me on this gun? Does anyone else own this model? Can it shoot .357 or .38s? Any information will be appreciated?

thanks in advance

It is a K frame S&W revolver made from the mid eighties to early 90's.
Can handle both .357mag and .38sp, best to stick with 140gr and heavier with the mags as the forcing cone doesn't handle the lightweight high vel 125gr loads as well.
Great revolver, enjoy.

Very dependable. I just sold my last S&W 66, it was one of the first models (no dash). Needed to fund one of my other gun projects. I also advise to stick with the heavier bullets. I reloaded mine with 158gr.

Just enjoy it, someday you will be able to hand that down to your kids...it will last that long.

Great guns IMO. Like others have said stay away from the light weight bullets. Enjoy!

The SW&W Model 66 is one of the finest revolvers ever produced. It is a classic. I own several and have owned many more.

The forcing cone is the rear part of the barrel where the bullet funnels its way from the cylinder into the barrel. It is the portion you can see between the frame and the cylinder.

I have one of the very first m66's. Evident by the all stainless build. Even th sights are stainless. You just inherited one of the best revolvers ever made. I even place it above my Colt Python. Here is a video I did on mine
