Absolutely beautiful. I love them. :hearts:
I've got one 11 years older, before the guns were marked "Gold Cup" and before the series 70 began.

Beautiful gun. It's the 4th one down on my list. Soon to be the third.
Love the Series 70 Gold Cup!

I saw one that I believe was the same year as yours at a gun show last weekend Bac. It was really nice, but I was surprised when the owner said he wanted $2500 for it.:wow: So I didn't leave with that one.
But they are gorgeous guns, Colts Royal Blue is spectacular. I'd really like to pick up a Gold Cup some day.
Have carried Gold Cups as duty weapon in the past, my faveorite 45 duty gun til I got my Smith and wesson 1911!

I totally agree.
According to the folks at Colt the '78 GC above isn't Royal Blue.
When I said I was considering having Colt refinish it in Royal Blue, purists threatened to charter a plane, fly down here, and slap some sense into me.
By comparison, this is Royal Blue:

Wow. I love that finish. I might send in one of my 1911s for Royal Blue someday.
I had one 30 years ago. Bought it from a retired military person. I swore I'd never sell it and he sold it to me. He also had a dedicated .22 conversion from ?Colt for it. (I think).
Anyway... God bless him. I sold it. I was dirt broke with kids and needed to pay the rent and eat. To this day, I regret the sale, but it was really tough back then. I have a standing order in at the gun store that I want one of these, but they just laugh at me.
Your gun is beautiful!!
