Well......I ordered a Non-Railed Springfield Professional on a whim the other day. It should be here tomorrow. Having never seen or held one before, I am kind of curious as to all of the talk surrounding this pistol. Any thoughts on what I should expect? I have heard mostly positive feedback from owners, but have also read of some somewhat unhappy folks, as well. Any thoughts as to what I should expect?

If you've handled a Baer, the Pro should feel similar. They are general fitted pretty tight, mine didn't need a wrench to turn the bushing but my friends did.

Not trying to get you down but I can say honestly I have not had the best experience with my recent Pro. A buddy bought his around the same time and feels the same. I bought mine from the experience I had with an older model, which was perfect.

I don't know what the difference would be other than the change of barrels, but I have talked with several owners would felt the same as I do.

I'm sure you'll be fine, I live day-to-day with a storm cloud overhead so I'm used to bad luck.

I think you can expect a pretty badass gun. I bet it'd look pretty good hardchromed too.

The first round out of the first mag on mine was a failure-to-feed and I thought "this is gonna be a long day". That was several thousand rounds ago and no issues, none, of any kind. Would be curious as to what "issues" have emerged with others. Mine is a couple of years old (S/N 326X) and has a no-name barrel, so guess it was made after the Nolan barrel departure. I would reconfigure the sights with a gold bead front, and all black rear as a personal preference in deference to ancient eyes, but will resist the temptation and keep it stock. Mine is the railed version and would acquire a non-railed given the right opportunity. It was awful tight inititally, in fact tighter than my LB, but that has eased a bit. No way the barrel bushing was removable by hand--thought I was gonna have to use a cheater on the bushing wrench.

Good luck.

They feel much better in the hand than a Baer. They don't have that overly thick frontstrap and they come with real checkering, not those 30LPI sissy scratches:supergrin:

Yeah, you have a point, but I meant on the feel while shooting. I love 20 lpi but the Baer 30 lpi is pretty sharp on my TRS...MUCH better than Wilson's.

Wish I would have paid the extra $50 and got 20 lpi on my TRS.

The LB's checkering definitely feels sharper then 30 LPI. You will love the Pro. The owner of my shop has around 25k through his and while it definitely isnt as tight as it once was, it is still more solid then my Kimber was after 500 rounds. And when i bought that Kimber, it was my first venture into 1911's and thought nothing could ever be tighter, boy i was wrong LOL

The Pro that i bought was nice and tight. just like my other Springfield Custom Shop guns, there is no moving the barrel bushing without using a wrench.

Very cool....I actually remember when that place was on the other side of the road. I think they are now in what used to be a Shoney's or something. I would love to get back down to Jax one of these days. I really enjoyed living down there. I am looking foward to getting it and seeing what it is all about...

Yes they built a brand new building across the road and at least doubled their inventory it's pretty impressive store . Although they don't stock a ton of 1911's but they do have a few.

If you do make it down this way let me know I'll buy you beer or something...

The Pro just landed and my initial reaction is WOW is this thing tight!!!! Very, very nice finish work. I really like the 20 lpi front and rear checkering. So far I have absolutely nothing negative to say based on my initial inspections of the pistol. It literally got here about 10 minutes ago. I have got to get some rounds through it.....It does need a solid trigger, though. :)

I just got home from putting 300 flawless rounds through it. It is an absolute tack driver....probably the best shooting I have done with a 1911. I am very impressed, and must say it is actually much more pistol than I was expecting. It is some kind of a tight barrel/bushing fit.....actually even tighter than any Baer I have messed with. Needless to say I really like it!!! I am going to clean it up and try to get a couple pictures of it for you 1911 Junkies....:) Stay tuned.....

Ok.....Here is a legitimate complaint. I have carried it in a Alessi PCH for the last couple hours and every time I reach down to check the thumb safety, it has disengaged. That is definately not going to cut it. I am going to have to do something about that right away. As to the comparison with the No Name, I will say this.....they are very different. I obviously don't have a whole lot of trigger time with the Pro, but my initial impressions when comparing the two is that the No Name carries a little better, especially with a rounded butt compared to the Pro with the magwell. Additionally, because the Pro is so tight, I wonder if I ever had to do a quick rack of the slide due a malfunction, it may not be as fluid of a move with the Pro because it is so damn tight, especially close to lockup. I believe I would be much faster clearing a malfunction with the No Name. And last but not least, although I really like the feel of the 20 lpi on the Springer, I like the 15 lpi of the GC more......and I will always be a fan of Melonite on a carry pistol, too. Before I do anything else with this Pro, I really have to address this ambi-safety issue. I really do like this pistol, though.......very well put together. It will probably loosen up a bit the more I shoot it.
