You don't go to the gun store right after you deposit your annual "holiday in lieu" check and all your other Christmas shopping is done.

You might leave with one of these.

I had made the decision a few weeks back to start looking at a full-size 1911 to add to my stable. I have a Springfield Ultra-Compact that I've been very happy with. I narrowed down to the TRP or an SIS RL. I just barely learned, while hunting for the SIS RL, that they have been discontinued and was having a tough time finding an RL model. So I decided on a TRP, mostly due to lack of availability of the Kimber.

Well today, I went into a local shop while my girlfriend was across the street at the mall buying jeans. And I found this beauty. And I bought it. I really like the TRP and would like to own one some day. But there are things I prefer about the Kimber, including the fixed sights with cocking shoulder, teflon finish, and lack of magwell. It helps that the gun shop gives a small law enforcement discount, which saved me about $100.00.

Merry Christmas to me!

It's pretty obvious that your Christmas shopping was NOT done.

My gun thanks you for the compliments. I'm hoping to get it to the range on Friday or Saturday. I'll report results back then.

In the meantime, does anyone know how the KimPro II finish holds up against kydex, specifically in a Serpa (NOT a Sportster) holster? I'm looking to get some nice leather made for this, but in the meantime thought about picking up a Blackhawk to use. My Glocks handle it just fine, but this cost twice as much as any of my other guns, so I'd like to make sure it doesn't get fooked up. Anyone have an experience with that?

Geez...so much for you x-mas money. Still, I cannot think of a better way to spend the money when it comes to treating yourself. That is an awesome firearm.

Yeah, I almost felt guilty...but not quite. But we all knows guns, (especially good guns) are an investment.

I try to look at it less like spending money, and more like converting money into things that go bang. And should the need ever arise (gasp) that I need to convert it back to money, I should be able to do so fairly easily. It's not like I spent it on a big-ass TV that will be obsolete in a year. :)

48 hours to range day. I can't wait.

So I took it up to our range today. No rest was used, just my hands. I put about 50 rounds down range at steel then had a firearms instructor run me through an off-duty qualification, 25 rounds at 3, 7, & 15 yards. There were a total of 2 malfunctions, both failure to feeds. I suspect after working the magazines and putting a few more rounds through the feed ramp, that should smooth it out. Going to the indoor range this weekend for another 100 rounds.

The gun shoots very smooth and was extremely pleasant to shoot. Qualification was 241/250 which is on par for me. I shoot between 240-245 with all three of my Glocks. I just don't think I'm good enough to get much better. The round in the 7-ring was the round that did not feed and was from 15 yards.

8" steel plates were a breeze at 15 yards and a steel silhouette was no problem at 30+ yards. In short, I'm pleased.
