Mystery Colt Guiderod

Can anyone tell what this guide rod is? It is from my dad's Colt original Series '70. Thanks.

Looks like the end didn't get cut off when they made it. But I'm probably wrong, I've never seen one like that.

The protusion at the end is spring loaded/
