View Full Version : MC Operator
Well,
I can't afford another gun, but when I do, it'll have to be a 1911. Since I cured my BRD with a nice Daniel Defense build, I need a new disease.
I think I want a MC Operator, in case I shoot someone at work with my Pro.
I would require an ambi safety and the same magwell my Pro has.
They come with an ambi safety, right?
How hard would a magwell be to install? S&A is what is on my Pro, IIRC.
It would of course need my standard trigger job and 10-8 flat trigger.
I already have a set of gunner grips waiting for it!

Aren't they like $2,000+ ?
I would love one of his new Springfield 10-8 guns. I think the MCO is about 1/2 the price though, no?
The second gun seriously is a back up to the Pro in case I off someone with it and they take it as evidence. I'll just need to sneak the light off. :whistling:

Yeah. I worry about the same thing with my Wilson. I actually need another railed heater to dedicate to my SWAT crap.
There is a TRP operator for 15 on gun broker right now. If I were dead nuts gonna buy another, I would make the jump to the TRP for a couple hunnert more. Of course since I don't price things out much I could be way off.
I actually wouldn't mind the aptly named Colt Rail Gun

The TRP Operator is cursed with an adjustable rear sight which I won't use on a duty pistol, so I think it would be out.
The Colt could double as an edged weapon if someone tries to get it out of my duty rig.

You definitely don't get as much for your money with Colt's but they seem to make one of the best base guns for a build.

Not hard at all, just depends on if you want the bevel blended

Doing those changes, you are pretty much making a 10-8 replica, except for the MCO not having checkering and some other bits and pieces

here's what the magwells look like, so the MCO would be most similar to the Loaded w/ add-on
TGO-1, Trophy Match and a Loaded with an add on.

Actually, I think Colt's rail gun compares pretty well to the operator and other railed 1911's in the $1k range. I nearly bought one of the black cerekote models about a month ago, but ended up buying an XSE Commander instead. All the rail gun needs IMO, to be duty ready is night sights. While not beveled like SA's, Kimbers, etc, I personally don't find the new Colts to have the razor sharp edges they seem to have a rep for.

I have an MC operator right now, comes with a good ambi fit well adding a magwell and ditching the crap springfield MLS or whatever system is easy..
The TRP Operator is cursed with an adjustable rear sight which I won't use on a duty pistol, so I think it would be out.

Yes, when I had an MC Operator - I added that magwell too. It attaches easily, and it worked well with the pachmeyer grips. And, I sent it off to CCR to have black ceracoat put over the blue steel finish to match the other black parts on the gun.
