I'm new to 1911s. But I'm looking to purchase one. I do know a couple of things I'd like to have in my 1911. I want a Commander size model because I like the size of the 4.25" model. I know I want the 1911 to be parkerized because I'm going to want to refinish the pistol. And I know I want the pistol to have 3-dot Night Sights. I also don't want a junk pistol. Springfield has a decent contender with the loaded Champion Model, But I don't know If I want to settle with a 4" Model. Is it possible to find the pistol I'm looking for for around $700-$800? Thanks for the Help.
I think you should "settle" for the loaded Champ or a lightweight champ/op.

Does S&W make a decent pistol? I found this -

You really don't need it to be parked to have it refinished.

It's a fine pistol. But the Lightweight Champion is pretty nice too.
Find a Colt Commander and have nightsights installed. You can't go wrong with a Colt.
Other than over pay for the Colt name...no thanks. I rather sPent the money on another branded 1911.

Sometimes you can find a nice slightly used Colt Commander for as little as $600.

Very nice James :)
Just get a Colt Commander.
Nothing against the Champion, but I wish I had spent the money for a true Commander, with a regular barrel bushing and original design recoil spring mechanism.
Since you say you want it parkerized for refinishing I assume you want it painted? Most refinishers can beadblast it and park it for adhesion for a reasonable cost prior to coating it if that is what you want.

I can apply GunKote, I just know that parkerizing takes it rather well. I'm unfamiliar with blasting, And Would like to keep this project at home.
Upon Further research... I guess its not all that bad if I went with the Stainless Steel. The look has really begun to wear on me. Is the Colt Commander worth looking at or is it really overpriced?

If was my cash...I'd spend $100 more and get a STI Ranger2.

Check out the fitting on that grip safety...looked like a blind smith did that job.

+1 on this. Better sight options. Parts fit pretty darn tight.
